I do all my business card design in Corel x8 suite. You can easily do all of that with it and a great deal more. Some of the cards I've done with Corel....

I dont have coral. I need to get it or buy it.
Anyway I think I figured it out. I dragged and dropped before I made my template size then scaled the whole image to 3.5x 2". I guess that would be called the main layer....?
Everytime I use gimp I forget how to do everything
I guess coral would be the same about forgetting how you to do stuff

Wayne, I'm using CorelDraw X7 right now. Is there any major reason to upgrade to X8? Just in general.

CorelDraw Graphics Suite does take time to get used to, just like any other program.
I had never heard of GIMP, but just did a search and although it is free, it is a raster based program like photoshop.
Adobe's full suite, like Corel Graphic Suite includes both raster and vector editing and creation programs.
Personally, I have been using CorelDraw for 20 years and I love it. My main use has been the vector side of things.

Rick...In the simplest of terms, Raster is photographs or "pictures" and Vector is line drawings.
Raster images will "pixelate" as they are enlarged. Vector images stay the same no matter how large they are.
In Wayne's photo there are both raster and vector images on the cards. In the case where there is lettering and photos, they are a combination of both formats. Some of those cards that are all vector could be blown up to billboard size and they would still look perfect when viewed up close.

GIMP is a photoshop like program in what is called "open source" programs. most are made for LINUX, BUT WILL WORK IN WINDOWS OR MAC OS. i have another h/d with LINUX on it and love it. the more mac/windows screws with their O/S the better LINUX LOOKS. its clean simple and works!!! the open source VECTOR program you want is INKSCAPE. now it works like corel, has a great trace program and is free.

"What is raster and vector" A Raster is what you get on your bottom from sitting too long at the computor. Vector is a marketing scam, also owned by the Cutco Corporation. Really, check it out.
