I am saddened by your loss, Rusty. I send you prayers from my house to yours.
That is one lovely piece of art you created. I can truly appreciate your abilities.

Sheila...this video...though way to fast to learn much from...shows exactly the way I painted the above pic...starting from a blank canvas use your imagination to build a scene using the basic photoshop brushes and tools used for retouching photos...I recently discovered that there are photoshop brushes that will actually make a tree...this was my first attempt using them...most are no good for what I want...but some will be of help...I'm still learning.

Rusty, I love your work. I'm still learning Photoshop and I'm amazed at what it will do. I designed a mural using blended photographs but the customer wants to see it as if it were already painted. I explained the final product will indeed be painterly, but is there a way to fake it in Photoshop? I tried posterizing, cutout, paint daubs, splatters, noise, etc. but none of it looks quite right - any ideas? (I told him I could paint a maquette if he wanted to pay extra, but it would still look different than on his brick wall)

Sonny...here is a pic of 2 pipevine swallowtails that I took...I am in CS6...and I have an "OIL PAINTING" option in filters...I selected that filter first...that filter has 2 boxes...in the top box labeled "BRUSH"... I set everything at "o" except for "BRISTLE DETAIL" which I maxed out...in the bottom box..."LIGTHING"...I played around a little with both slide bars to get the best results on this photo...then I selected the "PAINT DAUBS" filter... and on the brush options I selected "SIMPLE BRUSH"...don't know if this is what you had in mind but it's the best I can come up with...if this look works for you but you have trouble with it...send what you've got my way and I'll give it a shot.

Pretty cool Rusty! - now I realize this is totally computer-operated art. No mess - no fumes!
Lately I've had several jobs painting over portrait photos printed on canvas. They call them 'light oils' (as opposed to heavy oil painting) They go get a picture picture printed on canvas and I just paint right on it with One-Shot and/or whatever colours I have in whatever oil paint I have around, including artists oils and even house paints. I'm looking for colours to mix - not brands.
This form of art does however, still cause fumes, paint around the finger nails & occasionally the nose or forehead - but I thought that was the fun part ... right?
The pre-printed canvases are pretty easy and quick to do - and it ends up looking like I painted a perfect portrait - lol At least - the customers are thrilled.
It kind'a seems like cheatin' to me but it's what they demand. So there ya go.
I've done 3 dogs and 3 kids and have 5 more portraits to start - seems these s'uthun ladies are just
'cry'zy 'bout l'ot oll paynt po'trits'
Lol
Yays-mayum. Jes keep 'em comin' ...
lol. Crazy southern debutants.
ANY-way - will post pics soon cause I'm payin' my dues all around . . . eventually...
