I created a plain text sign (all vectors) in SignLab and exported it as an eps file and also a pdf file. I tried importing it into Corel and it imports fine with either extension but I can't ungroup the lettering or shapes at all. It says the image is on layer 1. I tried converting to curves and tried moving it to different layers and still I can't ungroup the letters or any part of the sign! All I can do is resize it. Why is this happening?

I find SignLab to be a better program for laying out basic text signs. I like the way the fonts work and you don't have to worry about being on the active page layer BS as in Corel. I'm just more used to SL and can work quicker there. I also like the way the fonts are segregated in SL so I can quickly find a script for example without having to scroll through all my fonts. Although Corel does have some features that I wish SL had like being able to grab the horizontal and vertical ruler lines and dragging to position.

its because you didnt "convert to curves" before you exported......doing this makes the fonts.."objects" rather then a font.

simply group all objects.....THEN CONVERT TO CURVES......before export. this way everything in that is vector......so when its brought into any other graphic program.......it works.......

Look Joe, I know how to work with vectors. Maybe things are better now. This was at least 10 years ago. I don't have a need to work with Corel files anyway so it's no big deal. As painful as it is to admit, AI files are pretty much the norm in the graphics world.

10 yrs ago???that woulda been COREL 4, 5, 6........they were not that great.compared to todays x3, x4, x5,6,7. nobody is diagreeing with the fact AI/EPS are the industry standard vector. corel will export these properly if you convert to curves all objects on whatever your trying to export. IT NOT ME......only who will tell you this. SUPER SIGNS, 365 SIGNS...... in there order forms or if you speak to someone there .....will tell ya IF it is a corel .cdr it must be converted to curves befor sending it off. I have been using the .CMX extension with no problems. its a newer export format corel came up with in i think 10-12.

Awww come on Joe, you can remember back better than that!
CorelDraw 4 came out 23 years ago!!!! That is almost a quarter century ago!!! I started with ver. 2..Gawd has it been that long????
It was X3 that was released 10 years ago.
And X3 was, at the time, the best version ever. I had to update to X7 because X3 didn't play nicely with Win 10. Now, after 6 months with Win 10 and CorelDraw X7, I think they are as good as it gets.
I don't use X7 for business purposes but I probably spend an average of 4 hrs/day using it. Lately vectorizing vintage vehicles. Just for my own entertainment.
Kinda like Rusty has been doing with his Photoshop paintings recently.

i dont which version davie had......i know 5-6 was the worst version of corel ever made. 7.0 WAS THE BEST REAL COREL. after that it was an incorporation of COREL & XARA. still is. i still work outa X3, have X7 but dont see much better then X3. do stuff in X3 if i need to send out to other sign makers...as some dont have X7......and X 7files wont work backwards

I don't pretend to be a talented artist like Grandpa Dan, Bill Reidell, Rusty Bradley, the Diaz family or the many others that live here. My area of knowledge is in vectorizing.
I truly wish that I had had the time to pursue the intricacies of CorelDraw's abilities when I was working, but, unfortunately I was just too busy using it cranking out the jobs that earned money.
Now, I am as happy as a clam experimenting and playing with Draw's capabilities. Keeps this old mind active. (also helps that I am currently playing with Draw while in bare feet, shorts and a T-shirt at the end of January!!! LOL)
(I'll post a couple more images on the portfolio page tomorrow, where they actually belong)
