I might not believe in everything on the sign...I'm agnostic in my beliefs...but I'm not offended...but that's just me...what offends me is if those same people that I show tolerance to do not respond in like manner to me and others that might disagree with them...It would be interesting to know how prevalent the flying of the Confederate battle flag is in Harris County, Georgia...my guess is that it's pretty popular...I know it is in Southern Tennessee where I live...and that offends me...but if an individual wants to do so then so be it...it's America.
On second thought the Harris County sign is a public sign and the State should take a neutral position on religious views...in being fair all beliefs the State should show no preference of one over the other...I would think that private businesses and individuals can do whatever they want with their signs...of course with certain restrictions...like obscenities and such.
I'm very respectful of those with opposing religious views...that is excluding extremist views like ISIS and those that might want to get in my face...last night I had a very nice conversation about religion with a devout Catholic friend of mine...he is someone I can respect because he doesn't just talk the talk...he walks the walk...everyone doesn't have to believe like me...and I accept that...but I do have to say that in my remote neck of the woods in southern Tennessee I do not feel free to express my personal beliefs with just anyone...I have to be careful because some people just want to fight and I'm not into creating more negativity than what already exists.
Didn't know I was going to write so much...but started and couldn't stop...I'm off now to eat leftovers from yesterday.

It's only politically correct, if you believe in political correctness.....and I don't.
It's only because of the current occupant of the White House that political correctness has become an obsession and an annoyance.....and an easy source of income for lots of 'ambulance-chaser', lawyers, who will sue for anything, anytime. People have become so 'hyper-sensitized' by progressives' labeling, rhetoric and racializing everything, almost anything you say, could "offend" someone.
I wish all towns would have signs like this, to remind us of many of the precepts that made America great, and the sacrifices of many brave heroes that fought and died for these beliefs.
You and you alone, are responsible for your feelings.....not me; not Rusty; not even OP.

Dale...the other day we were going with a group of friends out to eat..When I said..." Well how does Oriental sound?"...I was told that "Oriental" was now considered a derogatory term to Asian people...funny thing was that the restaurant I was referring to actually incorporated the word "Oriental" into their name...I don't know where she got her info from but that kind of thinking is pretty whacky
I absolutely do not want to be offensive to others and I try to give all people their due respect if so merited...but some of this political correctness seems out of hand...although in the big picture I'm not a fan of "The Donald"...I do get a kick out of how he throws caution to the the wind and pays no attention to political correctness or whatever the press might say of him...that is probably his biggest appeal to people...however having said that...I do think "The Donald" might be a little out of control himself as well.

I tire when I see any sign saying if you don't like something leave. It seems folks that support signs like this are the same ones that holler like hell about stuff they don't particularly like. People need to look in the mirror at their own actions. We all don't think alike. If I was passing through this place, I certainly wouldn't be stopping, that sign is just the tip of the iceberg.

I agree completely with George and Rusty. Whatever you think about political correctness (I dislike it intensely), the sign has a nasty tone to it. Terrible for a community to allow something like that to represent them. And the idea that everybody in the town thinks alike is really weird. BTW, San Francisco, the most politically correct spot on Earth, has a big Asian-owned hotel called the Mandarin Oriental. And there are lots of restaurants, shops, etc., that use the word. The PCs must grind their teeth when they see them.

While I agree that people should not be offended by the phrases listed, I disagree that they belong on a government sign.
Rusty and George are right on. It's sad that people feel the need to actively discriminate against people with different views. I guess their beliefs are so fragile they might just come crashing down if challenged.

You know, I think it's a shame that we're having this discussion at all.
If this country hadn't been taken over by the PC police, and everything hadn't been demonized, sexualized, stigmatized and racialized, we'd just be going along, living our lives in peace, like millions of Americans have been doing for generations.
We are being divided by racial lines, by ethnic lines, and by fiscal lines.....to try and take the "united" out of the United States of America; and we must do whatever it takes to keep that from coming to fruition.

Back in the 60's things were going along pretty well for me...I was in high school...star player on the basketball team...had my own car...pretty girl friend...not a care in the world...however before the Civil Right Act of 1965...in America a whole race of people were denied many rights that I just took for granted...and just because of the color of their skin...we were divided then...it was called "segregation"...I remember separate drinking fountains...subordinate seating at theaters and on buses...separate restrooms...separate schools...signs in restaurant windows denying service to blacks...I remember one that said..."No Niggers or Jews"...one could go on and on...and the ones I've mentioned are mild when compared to things such as lynchings...bombings...unfair treatment in the courts...underpayment in wages.
The inequalities and abuses of human rights that existed at that time for those of color didn't affect me...I was a middle class white boy...now imagine that before 1965...the current President of the United States...whatever you might think of him...he is still the most powerful person on the planet...was not allowed to buy a hamburger or coke from many establishments or even enter the door.
Now is where I start to agree with Dale and Dave...now it seems like the pendulum has swung too far in the opposite direction...and race pimps like Al Sharpton and his ilk are more interested in taking advantage of situations for their own gain and less interested in uniting us...I'm not into offending anyone on purpose...but the PC police make that near impossible at times...enough is enough with some of their rantings and this is coming from someone who...if you haven't guessed by now...leans more left than the right.

RUSTY........iam with you on all that the negro population had to endure(and still do)the signs went away due to PC, but the minds and hearts of those who used them/liked them......then.... HAVENT CHANGED!!! its only gotten worse as we have a 1/2 black president. it has brought those who enjoyed the pre civil rights atmosphere more out in the open and visible more often in everything we do. iam from pa. most of my formative years was spent there. so the deep racism was never a big thing for me. we owned a bar 1957----and health dept had us put up signs..........WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DENY SERVICE TO ANYONE. remember that one? was no sign for the fact we(by order of the health dept)was not allowed to serve negros with GLASS WARE. they could buy bottle beer, but not DRAFT. nor could they drink whiskey shots from shot glasses. WE never paid any attention to as we only had 4-5 well know black folk that came there. i remember in the city, the segregated lunch counter, and the 2 bathrooms. i was in the AIR FORCE in the 60's when they had the riots in jersey and a lot of the black guys i was in the barracks with was from there. THEY the black airman......took a wing of the barracks and all moved in together. i was 1 of the few whites that was accepted in there. then we had to have race relations classes..........now i live a hour !/2 from SELMA AL. 2 hours from MONTGOMERY, AL. and i would call this the deep(real)south. i see more black people now then at any time in my life. and i SEE.......that not much has changed since the civil rights movement..........the stigmas from that time still pervades most of the white population. when i moved here 1998 i still had black curly hair, darker then normal complextion and was called BOY.... by some old white guy........more then once)))))) this me then....... OK...OK...we get it Joe...you were a good looking young guy...but I think you need to keep the shirt on these days.
I lived, worked, and went to college in Pensacola a couple of years when I was young...was married there too...married a girl who lived out in the Ensley area...alot of racism there as I recall.
After seeing your picture I think I might have seen you way back then...you and another guy were floating into the downtown San Carlos Hotel...you were the one wearing the powder blue jump suit as I recall.
And on being black?...I'd say do the swab test bro.
I'm even giving The Donald a run for his money on who can be the most politically incorrect today.

Maybe you posted the wrong picture by mistake??? Or maybe you have the decades confused?

Joe is generous to a fault. His pictures prove that he always gave the shirt off his back to help someone.
PC to me is a load of bull. Nothing political about accepting people for who they are and not the color of their skin. That should be human nature in a civilized society. I felt things were getting better, slowly but surly, through the years. But our ******** and Al Sharpton have done a lot to put a huge division between people in this country. We've taken 3 steps forward and now thanks to a racist that calls himself a reverend and a ********* who invites the racist tax dodger to the ****** House as an adviser, 2 steps back.
There Joe, all fixed. Happy now?

In grade school, my best friend and I had nicknames for each other. He called me cracker, I called him Hershey bar or graham cracker. I made fun of his food ("why do chitlins taste like sh*t?"), he made fun of my clothes and my hair. We didn't hate racism as much as we thought it was just stupid. Yet we poked fun at political correctness, too. We just didn't know there was a word for it.
