I have a condominium property that needs their signs repainted and the wood posts 6"X 6" are all "chewed up" by the lawn maintenance string trimmers. So I'm looking for something I could "wrap" around the base of the posts, maybe a PVC product, they only need to be approx. 12" high. Does anyone know of a supplier or have a suggestion as what to use? I thought of aluminum but I'm sure the trimmers would wear off the paint quickly. Thanks for any assistance!

could buy the PVC POST COVER, cut it 12" tall, then cut it vertically. should be flexible enough to open it and fit over existing post...... dont need to secure it as its only for stopping the weed eater damage. ot put a couple screws in it to hold them in place.

A PVC sleeve will be destoyed rather quickly. Like Bruce, I recommend aluminum or even galvanized steel.
Another option would be to put a small flowerbed or decorative stones around the posts so that the stringtrimmer won't get near the post in the first place.

There are products available in PVC that can wrap around an existing post at the base so you don't have to replace the post. One company that makes them is Azek. I believe you buy a length and cut it to the sizes you want. We have made our own out of 3/4" thick PVC and have sold several of them.
