Customer calls me to tell me they might have to wait on the service truck lettering because,, "They Might Have To Hire A Company To Design It!" Of course this is the "New Guy" I be a dealing with. Usually their Marketing Guy does the truck lettering design and then hires me to produce the work he designed. But this time they want something "More Professional" looking. Tomorrow I will contact the new guy to inform him of my design abilities. I will try to be nice and not put my mouse up his,,,,,,,, yeah.

I know the feeling. In situations like this they want to relegate you as 'just another vendor'. All you can do is, like you said, try to educate them as to your design experience and above all, act professional.

Urrghh! I have one of those too Alicia. Several ideas and modifications to do a sign and she comes back with " I'm going to get someone to make sure our whole line of signs, labels, letterhead etc. looks consistent". That's fine - she's still going to get my design time bill when she orders her sign be made.

I have a sample pages for each different type of work. Logo designs, trucks,3D Signs, Etc. I would send this customer a photo page (Mini Brochure) of trucks I've done. This shows all my design capabilities and leaves a nice impression with them.

Doesn't seem to matter how many years experience we have in this business, ... it seems we always have to proof ourselves again and again to people ... even though we've paid our dues a gazillion times already.

My, my my, they want a warp, I mean a wrap. I don't do full or difficult wraps. So tommorow they are going to take their truck to a wrap guy to get a design and quote. I think after they get the quote for the wrap they will then call me to do a partial wrap. If they dont' good, then next time they need something else done, I will be sure to charge them more, cause then I know,,,,they have the money. They just sometimes act like they don't. Even more so, I would like to see hoow another company works with them as far as design the load of copy they want on their service truck.

I think it's awful that all the art museums let the painters sign their work without ever giving a little credit to the forgotten people who designed them.

Just this week, I designed a t-shirt design for a client- of course no direction, just make it look cool- yeah right!…
They ended up going on to "Custom Ink" and "designed" their own- complete with crappy silhouette clipart drawn in a tijuana prison- then I had to redraw it and make it work for a t-shirt.

I've learned it's best to let people who are determined to have a "professional" design their graphics to go ahead and let them. Because if I tell them I can design - then they don't want to pay me for it, or they waste my time with too many revisions and then go someplace else anyway, etc. Sometimes they turn to the internet and try to find something cheaper, or "better". They give me a headache between my eyes!
