There are no words to express how sad we are with the loss of our friend. He will always be remembered for bringing the Brothers and Sisters of the craft together. Without Steve, Barb and this site, we all would not be the people we are today. Thank you and rest in peace our friend.

So, so sad at the news... Pete Payne had sent the heads up a week ago that Steve was not good, but I had hopes that Steve would've had just a little more time. My thought and prayers to Barb and family

Truly a sad day in Letterville! My Prayers for the family are for strength through the coming days ahead. I do believe that the pain and suffering is over and Steve is in a better place with those who have gone before, he is now with Bushie, Mikey Boone and other friends and I'm sure would not want to return from the promise that was give, In My Fathers house there are many mansions, I go there to prepare a roon for you. Steve is in good hands, and will be watching over his families and friends. R.I.P. Steve.

My sincere thoughts go out for you Barb for your loss of "our Steve"; you made such a good team to help us rise above the norm to share your talents and kindness, to give us all a new place to come together for the crafts and talents; for that I am thankful to be here today to wish you a good send off to your seat in heaven that is painless and a greater place than we can imagine. Steve had the talent to reach everyone in a special personal way visiting people at their homes and getting to all the meets possible; here's wishing your family all peace that he is in a better place with our other friends of David Drane, Bushie, Timi, Michael Boone, Duckie, and of course Amanda, your daughter. We will all meet again as life is meant to be.

So hard to wrap my head around this. Every time I see the Letterville logo, it's like walking into the same room as Steve. The room now feels very quiet. Too quiet.

In my early years of trying to learn how to paint signs, no one in the business would give me the time of day when I would approach them with questions and such . . . then one day I came across a magazine dedicated to the business, and inside I learned about this group called the Letterheads AND a Canadian guy by the name of Steve Shortreed who lived in a small town not too far from me - so nervous as all heck I gave him a call - I remember it vividly! Finally someone who would not only talk to me about sign painting, but was truly excited to do so and share whatever he could. Not long after that phone call I made my way to my first Letterhead meet up at Doug Downey`s . . . drove up by myself - I was scared ****less! but it twas a GREAT GREAT DAY! That phone call changed my life so much for the better, and even though my life in the sign business has had many ups and downs, there is NOTHING on this earth that I would rather do for a living - I`ve met so many great people and made so many great friends, and I sincerely want to thank Steve for his generosity and friendship . . . RIP

I'm deeply saddened by this great loss. Steve was passionate about this business and the people who plied this trade. I remember back when he discussed the concept of a Letterhead Meet that never ends with me at Doug Downey's Stratford meet. Although I knew nothing about the Internet, or chat rooms, or much involving electronic communications, it was clear that Steve had a vision of what could be, and how he intended to bring the Letterheads together in a virtual meet. This is his legacy, and it's one where many have directly or indirectly have benefitted from.
RIP Steve, you did yourself proud !
