I need to recreate a vector of a two color decal. The customer only has one printed on mirror silver. Does anyone know of a trick to scan it so theres enough contrast to create a new file? Mirror comes out dark in a scan. Maybe there's some ingenious trick I can't think of?

I've tried it too, and ended up finding the best solution after trying a digital photo from about 10 different angles, was to get some really transparent tracing paper, and hand-trace it, then draw it a bit better with a lightbox, and then scan and vectorise that.

I'm not sure this is relevant; but there are people who take stunning images with a scanner. Pictures of flower arrangements and things like that. I guess they use some sort of black box enclosure, with the scanner lid remaining open. Maybe they do it in a very dark room. Anyway, I wanted to use my scanner to take a picture of some metamorphic rocks I have. I tried it, and it was a dismal failure. So I went online to investigate; and found out that there are two types of scanners, that is, the way they capture the image. I apparently have the kind that is -lousy- at taking anything other than a flat scan. Not suggesting the purchase of another scanner, but maybe a friend has one?

Chuck - if the decal isn't too complicated and you have a steady hand, you could make a tracing and cut from Rubylith. The ruby would scan nice and black for each color.
