OK...we are just about there. Everything is talking to everything and actually seems to be doing what it is supposed to do...except..
The Graphtec plotter (CE6000-60) will change Speed and Force settings once the job begins cutting. I adjust the two to the correct numbers, hit Enter and everything looks good until the job actually begins to cut and then it reverts back to the previous settings.
I can pause the job and reset the numbers and it will complete the job with the new settings, but will go right back again when the next job is loaded and begun.
Working with brushes really seemed easier.

the settings on the plotter can be set either by the keypad on the plotter itself and or by the software(in your case omega5),....It sounds like you probably have different settings in omega and they only change when omega sends a file to the plotter with the settings it wants for the individual file/cut session,... hope this helps ya,....
edited to add,....yes Ray I have to agree, brushes are much simpler to use,...but they don't make paint and or brushes like they used to,...go figure,...

i would set the PLOTTER....AT THE PLOTTER, turn off whatever OMEGA trys to do....or find the setting in OMEGA, to shut it off from trying to set force and speed.....make all work DEFAULT to PLOTTER SETTINGS.

I hope you get an answer to this one Ray. I have a Graphtec CE5000-120 with Omega 3.0 that does the same thing. I use this plotter to draw pounce patterns for water towers, and it needs to run pretty slow to pull a 4' roll of paper back and forth. Sometimes it will run fine for more than half of a cut, then take off at normal speed, and trash 20-30 feet of pattern.
I have the same settings in the plotter, and in Omega, but it still does it sometimes. I leave the settings in both because I only use that plotter and computer to draw patterns. That computer is running Win XP.
At least mine is only destroying paper, not 20-30 feet of vinyl.
I cut vinyl on my Mimaki CG60-EX from a Win 7 (64 bit) computer with Omega 3.0, and have no problems with it.

Well, it seems that everything is working correctly. The solution was to control the plotter settings through Omega 5 rather than the on board settings in Graphtec.
It's really hard for an old guy to figure this stuff out, but I thank all of you (and tech support) for walking me through this problem.
Now, after two weeks of pulling my hair out (what's left) I can actually get something done.
