I've seen something like this several times but can't seem to nail down the exact quote. Does anyone have this little story tucked away in their computer? I thought I saved it but can't find it anywhere.

Closer to #3 OP. The anecdote contained several reasons why the lowest price is not always the best deal, value, what ever and included information about why. It's been posted in Letterville before but I can't remember enough of the exact phrases to come up with a match from a search.

No Dennis, not that one. It was more about the cheapest price for something will not be the best value because there has to be a reason why it's cheaper. It went into some detail about planning on extra money to replace a cheaper item sooner, and that you'd be better off paying a little more for the better product in the first place.

I think I got this one a long time ago that someone had posted here on this website but I don't remember who (I wish I could give credit where credit is due...

I have this on my front counter.
It's unwise to pay too much...but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money...that is all.
When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot.... it can not be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run. And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better.
John Ruskin.

I once read something that said that the best cost more to make. I'd rather explain the quality than apologize for its absence.

I haven't been back on here to keep up with this thread but Kevin Betz found it for me and tried to post the image but was having difficulty so he ask me to do it. Bob Rochon also found what I was looking for, but I'm going to post what Kevin sent me just because of the born & died date of the author, John Ruskin. Interesting.
Rick, I like that one, Rob and Bob's too. Mike, I've used that one before...another gem.
