A customer has me patch up his boat every year before he puts it in. This time I am thinking of painting on a word instead of reapplying with new vinyl. Will lettering enamels work? I believe it is above the waterline. I would be painting on top of existing paint, have no idea what kind.

That's what it's for. Clean surface first. I lightly dull the gel coat surface area with Bon Ami cleanser.
