I got up at 5:45 this AM to watch the game...

Those are fantastic pictures, Lori. It's a shame that the Olympics has evolved from that era.... a simple competition between amateur athletes from different nations, showcasing their national pride, and the raw excellence of their physical ability.
Now, we have billions spent on glitzy computer-designed venues; millions spent by countries, sending their professional athletes to other countries to train; athletes from one country, competing for another country (where they can get the best "deal"); millions spent on high-tech, space-age equipment (bobsleds, skis, etc)....it's all big business now, designed around tourism and money.

I dont see the point of continually changing sports equipment. To me, it's no different from using steroids. Not to mention the costs, as Dale said.
