Hello, I'm going to wrap some decorative rope (1.24 inch hemp/manilla) around a group of 4X4 posts, any suggestions as to a sealer to use or just let them weather? Any recommendations as to fasteners to hold the robe in place? Hopefully someone viewing has done this before, Thank you!

gorilla glue to hold rope to post...and i know this will sound strange.....but use MOTOR OIL on the rope ......it soaks into the rope, making it waterproof and will last a long time.

Used to do a lot of nautical theme signs. I always let it weather. When you cut it wrap masking tape around it for several inches and cut in the middle. That way it won't unravel. You can dip the end in clear to seal it I used screws through the rope, it was large rope. Small rope use fence staples.

This was a replacement sign for one I did 17 years ago that was hit by a truck - you can see the old one leaning on the fence in the picture. The first one was cedar - this one's sandblasted HDU with some added dimensional elements. The hardest part was getting the old poles out of the ground....

I recently discovered synthetic rope that looks exactly like the hemp rope of old - it was convincing even when I held it in my hands. I talked to a friend who uses it in their water park and it I keeps it's color even in bleach and sun for many years.
We are going to use it on our current project.
