Last week I talked with Gary Anderson and he has officially retired. He closed his studio in June and is now doing just whatever he wants to do. He hasn't given up creating great things, just not signs for the public anymore. He is doing some wood sculptors, fictitious restaurant signs (just for himself), and bird houses.
His wife, Linda, retired in November.
Made me feel really envious.

Congratulations to Gary. I know he's been dreaming and planning for quite some time for this move. It's important we follow our dreams.
I retired when I was 24 Raymond.

Retire in good health Gary, you deserve the best for all you have given to the Letterheads. I for one would really like to see the results of your wood sculptures and dream signs.

the trouble with retirement.it is overrated. with all my medical stuff in the last 4-5 years, i still manage to crank out a few signs, dig and put in a 120 feet of water line to the shop, and still manage to buy more pottery eqipment)))))) this is haw it goes for me. last nite it was snowing here, i decided to lay down and sleep. WELLLLLLLL all that did was give my mind the opportunity to CRANK UP AND HAVE VISIONS of an idea for a pottery piece!!!!!!! NOW I GET OUTA BED.... get a pad and pencil and sketch it out.......do some research online to help make the piece.....THEN I WENT BACK TO SLEEP))))))

Gary Its been a while since we saw you...Have fun with the rear-tirement, though after seeing the bird house you did for Kelly, there's probably not much sitting going on...Enjoy...

You can't really retire. That would require giving up what you love. Sounds like you might be giving up on running a business, not giving up on what you love. Enjoy your life.

Tom...you hit the nail on the head. Gary said that he has no thoughts of doing nothing, just not having to deal with the day-to-day routine of operating a business.

I'm glad for Gary, but sad for the industry. It's like when a great singer retires, kinda sad.

Well Gary, I am glad for you, I am told that retirement is a wonderful thing, I even tried it once. Then there was an increase in the cost of living, gasoline, taxes, insurance, etc, etc. And then there was this guy pounding on my door wanting neon made, wouldn't take NO for an answer, so I am back at it and happy doing it. God is Good. Peace, Don

Thank you all for your kind comments, needless to say retirement for me is from the business(quotes/ meetings/deadlines/revisions & the all other related fun stuff)not from the art or the great Letterhead friends. You will not find me being a greeter at Walmart for something to do. The best to you all & Peace, Gary Anderson
