I need some suggestions. For decades we hand lettered Mags but now getting One Shot to stick to them has become and issue. I am making a magnetic directory. The individual tenant slats will be Mag material painted dk gray (one shot w/ hardener) Then plotter-cut lettering. I have had paint peel up when removing transfer tape. My proceedures will be scuffing mag with scotchbright pad, wipe down with denatured alcohol then rolling on the 1Shot.
How would you guys approach this?

Bob, the magnets are so bad now that I'd be afraid any paint ( which shrinks when it dries) will pull the corners up.'Why not get someone who can print directly on the magnets? If you just print it in a solid colour, you can add your vinyl.

The exposure to the heat ( the Sun ) could, eventually, make the color of the vinyl fade and curl up.....Not pretty....I have seen it happen quite a few times.
I, honestly, do not know what the true cause is....However, another possibility could be a combination of the quality of the materials we have at our disposal, today( vinyl, mag sheet and/or paint ).
To be on the safe side, I would go with Rodger's suggestion......and, Bob, please stay away from that Brush Script you like so much.

What about applying 24" dark gray vinyl over 24" magnetic sheet, cut to size, apply vinyl lettering? Or...apply vinyl lettering before cutting to size, with little additional squares or stripes of vinyl as part of the lettering layout. The little squares are the marks/indicators of where to lay straightedge and cut with knife. Sort of like little extra squares for registering multiple colors.

Here is some additional info. I made this directory several years ago, it is interior. It must match mag slats in existance. I was looking for a tip that would help the paint adhere better. I would rate the adherence level at about 75%. I really do not think the mag material is enamel receptive like it was back in Ricardo's Hey day.
I am going to prime it with a tinted adhesion primer first this time after the scuffing and wiping. Thanks for the helpful suggestions all. I will try to be clearer next time as I describe the scope of the project.
I am an admirer of Charles Borges and his scripts but I confess I like Brush Script in some circumstances. But I never put it on an arc the way Ricardo does.

I don't know if you are aware of it but, in your uncontrollable and weak attempt to display your creativity, you have, involuntarily, come up with a very popular design among Mexican low riders, from this part of the world......Gangs on the West coast use that kind of fonts and layout on their cars, jackets, businesses, tattoos, etc........Very popular, indeed.
Who knows, you may have just discovered your own hidden talent, Roberto....... and, maybe, another source of income. Just in case everything else fails, for you, as a future sign designer.
Think of the possibilities, Roberto..... You could even end up being the new future resident Low Rider artist in Tallahassee, if you practice a little more.
Congratulations, Roberto !!

P.S. -- I would strongly suggest you start getting used to being called Roberto, by your new future customers.

I've had luck with Krylon Fusion as a magnet paint primer, then one shot over that, but I've also had great results with Glenn's suggestion of adding a little frog juice to the One Shot.

Try covering the magnet with Enamel Receptive Vinyl and see if the paint sticks to the vinyl better.

So far we've never experiences that problem. I like the Ti Cote idea. Over the years we've gone to the NAPA store and had them make a small can of paint to match the vehicle's manufacturers color and found there are flexible additives that help the longevity of magnetic signs. I've had success adding a few drops to enamel also.
