you'll probably need to purchase a usb to serial port adapter then hook that up to your current plotter cable,...windows will see it as a serial port,(com port)....

Gerber software is touchy when it comes to the converters. Some work, some don't. Gerber sells their own for around $100

Well, we bought a Trendnet USB to Serial adapter for $10 on Amazon, which is recognized by Windows 8, with drivers installed. The problem is that there is no interaction between the plotter and the computer.

The drivers for the plotter ended up not being able to install under Windows 8, which led me to attempt to install XP.

Installing Windows XP in Virtualbox worked fine, after getting all the usb ports recognized, I installed Gerber Omega and the security key was recognized, allowing me to use the program, I installed XP drivers for the plotter, which installed successfully.

So now I have to make a decision, buy a new converter?
Or attempt to install Windows XP in a separate partition on my hard drive.

(This was written by my son, who's helping me figure this out.)

you might consider trying to load a 32 bit version of win 7 ,...sounds like windows 64 bit don't like the 32 bit drivers

I have been dealing with the same problem with Windows 7,64 bit. I have a Mimaki CG-6 which is a legacy plotter. I contacted Mimaki in Suwanee, Georgia and they emailed me a driver. It worked fine for almost a year and I started having problems with my computer recognizing the parallel port that I have my plotter plugged in to. Just had to reload Windows 7 because of Incredibar malware and had to setup my plotter again. It is working after I installed the driver even though I can't get that driver to show up under the port in Device Manager. My new computer is a Dell and one of the techs changed a setting on the port that corrected the identifying the port problem. Good luck!

I had to install 32 bit xp using virtual machine on my windows 7 pro machine to install the driver for my old cutter. Takes a little getting used to, but works fine.

My IT guy just told me to stay away from Windows 8,
(I have another post about Windows XP being phased out) He said Windows 7 is OK, but 8 is trash, XP was the best and is history!

I have a Mimaki CG-60 EX running on win 7 64 bit, with Omega 3. I had tried the adapters on a previous computer with no luck from 4 of them. I paid $30 for a PCI Serial Port, installed it, and everything works fine.

window 7 and a 97 model Summa. I have a win xp PC hooked to the plotter, saves my corel 14 files as corel 8 and transfers my corel 8 files to xp PC with a memory stick and let the xp PC make plotfiles from the cor 8 files, then cut.
Easier then it sounds.
