Today I was doing a sales call for a guy who's re-opening an old run down bar. The building is an old historical type of joint. Nice with lots of brick, but the guy just wanted to get the awning letting. I suggested a few other options, but he tells me the city will not allow any other type of sign because of the building's age. So,,,being the woman that I am, I visited the planning department from the city. It was just a few blcoks away, and I know that they are dead this time of day. So I asked about the signs etc, showed them a qucik drawing, yadda yadda yadda, my signs ideas were just fine by the city codes. So I go back to the bar owner and tell him where I went and that the city has no problems with the other signs I suggested. So he says, "I'll think about it" Maybe he was just being cheap or maybe he didn't think he would come accross a person like me. Time will only tell.

He may have talked with another business owner sho is in a different zone & wouldn't be allowed the type of signs you wanted to do. Or, he got the wrong person at the planning department who just wanted to brush him off.

He's watching his nickels and dimes, but didn't know how to tell you. Give him time, he might come thru...

I could never figure out why people think that "just letter the old awning" is going to be a huge savings for them.
They are a super PITA to letter on site. It never fails that the old stuff can not be covered up, too.
The heck with that. Don't quote it cheap.
