I was awoken during the storm early this morning to find that my power had gone out. I immediately went to my smartphone to see what the rest of the world was doing and found a message from Terry Baird regarding Mikes passing. Mike and I had a unique friendship. I spent many nights up in the land of The Growling Cow. In as much as Im saddened by the loss of my friend I also know that he will be happy to be with one of his favorite friends, Whitey the Growling Cow. I attended many if not all of the meets that were held at Mikes and can definitely say that I have plenty of Great memories from them along with a few panels that Mike and I worked on together. I was also fotunate to meet Magoo at Mikes and that has turned out to be a great friendship too. Mike always had a spot reserved in his house just for me (Harris's chair) Mikes wife Shirley is one of the greatest people in the world too. I hope she is ok. Im going to miss you buddy.

I never met him in person, but chatted with him a number of times online. He was very consoling to me when my mom passed away. Great guy. I'm sad to hear this news.
My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone. Posts: 3129 | From: Tooele, UT | Registered: Mar 2005

Yes, a shock! I just spoke to him a week ago on chat, Michael a very dear friend of mine like Si, we never met but were close online for over 10 years.. we were just talking about a meet.
Michael contacted me immediately when David Drane passed away. I was so comforted: Michael always made the best out of nature and life, including his bows and arrows he hand carved and I have swapped with him in the panel swap. I can't believe this so sad.
Michael also sent me a box of the most beautiful and carefully picked apples a few years back; the house smelled like apples for more than a month. I used to send beeswax to him for his bows and he laughed at me saying I sent him enough for a million bows, but then I told him he could have candles to last on those long winter seasons he and Shirley had a very old house I never did make it to, was just getting enough gas money and time off to get there this spring. Michael loved his family so much and then there was his dog and Whitey he chatted his sadness the nights he lost them also. Michael was such a fine person and human being. Everyone admired him that knew him.

As many of you recall I posted a question about the use of latex paints on banner material a few weeks ago. I received much advice on the subject here and on some other forums. One person a perfect stranger to me, went to the trouble of actually calling me about the issue. As you have probably guessed it was Michael Boone. From reading this thread that was not an isolated incident but part of Michael's service to others. I only knew him for about 15 minutes (the length of the phone call) but he had good things to say about Letterville. I regret that I shall never have the opportunity to actually meet him but I do consider him a friend.

So sorry to hear of Michaels passing. We had the pleasure of meeting him at Steve and Barb's for the Bushie Bash....and had kept in contact ever since. Just another reminder...to live everyday to the fullest. RIP Michael Boone, you will be missed.

I'm just seeing this now. I feel stunned. It wasn't that long ago, I found myself in a Skype chat with Mike. We talked about old sign painters and our health. As usual, I did most of the talking. Boone was always a good ear.

Years back I stayed at their house and painted murals on his dining room walls..I didn't finish one spot and promised to come back one day and do so. I am grieved and saddened...such a sweet and kind man, I was going to call him re garlic planting...maybe I could get some from one of you, I would love to keep Mikey's garlic going here in WA. Please post his address so I can send Shirley a card. Oh...man...... A

Here is a photo of Michael doing a couple of panels at my shop. He also painted a few 'hidden messages' at various places like on a light switch cover and inside a toolbox lid.
