Happened this morning and first noticed it on engraving workstation as we use a lot of legacy files there.
Turns out the problem effects coreldraw ver X5 and X6 for sure, likely other versions. Problem is related only to Windows 7. Just check if you can see a type 1 font in coreldraw, we use them less and less but will be stuck with them for a while.

Bit of sleuthing and it turns out the problem is related to microsoft update KB2753842. Microsoft is aware of problem, for now just uninstall this update.
Start>control panel>programs>view installed updates you can use search to locate it from there, select the update and uninstall it

Hope I've saved someone out there some headache...

Mike

Thanks Mike! It just happened to me this afternoon. Deleting the update solved the problem. Thanks for posting the solution.

Hey Mr. Mayor... question is, how are you doing? [Smile]

Pondering semi-retirement, will be apartment shopping in montreal tomorrow... maybe I'll join Grundy in mexico... lol

Business is quite good and has reached a point where im really not involved in the day-to-day

Looking at starting a life elsewhere, initially for 1 week a month but the time ratio can change as we go forward.

Shop is quite secure, I've done well with land and expansion over the years and to be honest have done little in the shop this past year even though I've done quite a bit with the shop this past year. I'll keep a hand in, but i've really worked a lot towards succession planning and things are looking well.

Main role these days is direction (and troubleshooting) have to admit I seem to have a flair for it...

Did I mention I'm a granddaddy??

found problem on 3 machines in shop, all with windows 7. embroidery puter which is running vista was unneffected.

did xp take the same update?

I'm not quiete sure my vista machine is set to take updates, the embroidery software is a bit finacky and i might have well configured it to refuse all updates, i'll check in the morning.

Bit of a strange problem, affected only type 1 fonts and only in coreldraw, the fonts worked fine in Word, I first uninstalled a particular font for the file I was opening, just to make sure the font itself was not corrupt, then tried the font in other programs just to see what happened. then I discovered it wasn't just one font but every type 1 font in Coreldraw, so that narrowed down my search. Since I was able to replicate the problem on multiple computers it led me to question what variable could possibly effect one entire type of font over multiple machines, and this all only happened since Friday... updates... a google search from there found the solution...

After Tony posted that, I noticed the same problem and uninstalled the update and everything's been fine since.

Edited to add:
I appreciated the heads up from Tony because the M$ update was from the previous night. I hadn't even had time to stress over the problem and the fix was there.

It also likely shows you my work habits--boot up computer, drink coffee, check Letterville, read email, surf the web... Oh yeah... I need to open Corel and get some work done today!

One more thing:
M$ will reinstall the update and the problem will reoccur, necessitating uninstalling it again unless you select "Hide Update", which makes it go away for good.

[Smile] and I somehow missed that post ... duh

Then again it was posted before I encountered problem myself and my search brought me to same solution from other sources... Lesson learned, I have to view the longer term postings on letterville before recreating a topic.... [Smile]
