The other day, this guy I know, comes in to get a little vinyl letering cut out. He usually gets little names and such cut from paint-mask for lettering. He's a striper and likes the look of paint masked lettering. So he comes in to get some vinly lettering cut,two color, small stuff, 3 words, times 3. I cut the vinyl, I don't charge the guy that much, 15 bucks. So he checks his pcokets and asks if I have change for a twenty. I said "No, but I'll go in the house and get some". My house is right there as well. So as I am going into the house, another customer comes in. I tell him,"I'll be right back" So I get back into the shop. There's three guys in there, I hand striper guy the five. I keep my hand out waiting for the twenty. He says, "Oh, I already gave it to you". I said, "Ya sure?" He' says "Yeah" Now this guy is in his 70's. His buddy, the guy he brought with him, reasently had a stroke. (Memory) The other guy had just got there and didn't know what was going on.So in order to keep things moving on, I just said, "Alright" with a big smile. So not only did I lose the fifteen on the vinyl, I also gave him five. But next time, I will be ready! "Ay Cono!"

Alicia; I have had trouble with a certain ethnic group in the farming population around here...for years. "I don't pay sales tax!" they would say. So I made it my practice to only bill in round numbers with them. I just add the tax and go to the next whole number. You can't beat'em all. You just have to learn from your lumps and move ahead. Oh, I'm sure it ws a mistake on his part. And not on purpose. I would'nt take any cash in hand without having change. I do stuff for this guy about once a month, so in time, I will regain my lose. And I will have change in my pocket next time. I'd rather keep my mouth shut than having to go into an embarrassing situation. Maybe one day I might be able to do the "I already gave you a twenty" routine on him.

Smart cashiers always leave the bill on the counter until they have the change ready.
