After talking with Ben Diaz, Brad Bandow and Cornbread and presenting to the city board this week. It appears will be having a walldog meet in Alachua, Florida.
Alachua is our hometown and the city is very excited about bringing in the walldogs. We had a presentation to the city board that will fund the project this week. They loved the idea and were actually looking for a public art project to fund. We are just in the begining stages but I feel this will surely happen.
I have thrown this out on the CSA site and would like to hear from folks on letterville about interest in traveling to North Florida during the Fall or Spring of 2014. I know we have the Butler meet that year during the summer but we are targing a different time of year and region so some southern folks could join in. I think we will be having 8-10 walls but that has yet to be determined. For those of you up North, I would like to plan the meet for the best time for you all to come down. I know the cold can make work slow and that may be the best time to come get some sunshine. I smell tax write-off vacation!
Give me your feedback on those who are interested in coming down and what time of year would make more sense fall or spring. Thanks a bunch and I will keep everyone posted on any details and such.
Doug

Spring or fall, doesn't matter to me, Me and the Mrs. are up for it.
If you need any help with anything, please let us know....I have been involved with the Walldog gigs every year since 2002. I have photos from most of those events. If you need promo/planning materials, let me know.

Finally a walldog meet in a southern state! I absolutely love Florida and have vacationed there many times. Like Dale, anytime is fine with me! I'll probably combine the trip with taking my 9 year old to Disney World (again!).
We are all big Disney fans and last time we went, I got in trouble from my wife for taking pictures of all the signs and very little of the kids!
Sounds like a great idea and a chance to meet more walldogs that haven't been to the last few we've had in Illinois and Wisconsin.
Sign-cerely, Steve

I love it guys! This is already looking pretty good, there is lots of interest. I may reach out to those of you offering help. If you have something specific in mind let me know.
As time goes on I will also be looking for project leaders. If you are interested in that drop me a line or email.
Steve, I told I would get something going in the south.

let me just throw this out there....... MEETS are for the people attending them. a time for all of like minds to come together and and work with each other and bond tighter friendships. with that in mind, instead of 8-10 mural projects, which will try to be completed in 3-4 days....and seeing that people are coming from other states to "meet" with people they know but wish to get to know better........1-2 nice murals....where everybody can have a brush on them.......and talk to people standing next to them.......while they complete a couple GREAT MURALS IN 3-4 DAYS.............ALSO any who are into car art and fast cars, its short trip to "BIG DADDY" don gartlits.........which you have to see: http://garlits.com/

I do get your point, Old Paint. We will see what the city wishes to do. I will say they really liked the idea of a larger event.....it is a promotion thing... but there was some talk of a smaller amount of murals maybe 1-2 intially. If they only can do a couple of murals I will still push for a meet for the reasons you spoke about. It would have to change some but it could still be a great time. It is all about the fraternity of sign making and painting and giving some back to a community. We are just over a hour to Garlits place.

If it where held in late February, there is a lot of Nascar going on in Daytona. That would be a nice side trip. I think the twin 125's are mid week and would not cut into mural time. On the plus side, it's mid winter up here and the warmth would be welcome and help cut the winter in half. Sandy Baird www.windwalkersigns.com

Late February we have some cold weather in Northern Florida. It would be great to pair it with some other activity that everyone can enjoy. Extreme Southern Florida is the only place with reliable warm weather during February.
Judy...it would be a short trip for you...we are about 2 hrs to Tallahassee, Fl. Look forward to slingin paint with you.
You guys have some great ideas so far. I have another formal meeting and presentation with the city planned for January 16th. I am presenting a map showing the suitable walls in town for Walldogin. That is when we will really know if they are in or out for this. I know the chamber has invited me to speak to them too at their next meeting. Ill keep everyone posted.

The Tallahassee Signs By Judy is no more. It is now run by Stacy.
Judy, I am really enthusiastic about the prospects for this event. Mr. Hancock is a friend and he is sharp as a tack. A great person to be upfront on this one.

We drove by there last weekend, but didn't get the chance to stop.
We left here at 3:00 Friday afternoon, and arrived in West Palm Beach at 7:30 Saturday morning. Had breakfast at Lake Worth pier, then walked the beach until we could get into the hotel. Attended my uncle's surprise 70th birthday party that night, then headed back home on Sunday.
Fun weekend, but it didn't allow much time for side trips.
