It's been a while since I checked in here... been so very busy with the new house and a few fun signs as well. After three months of putting in as little time as possible in the shop it is now time to turn my attention back there and make the house second once more.

The house is coming along nicely however and is proving to be a great move for our business already. It literally stops traffic on the road and we are getting many enquiries about future jobs. And the funny thing is no one is asking about flat signs. [Smile] After seeing the house they realize we are the go-to place for imaginative stuff.

The house project has been very challenging from the very start. The walls are ICF (insulated concrete forms), basically hollow blocks of styrofoam filled with reinforced concrete. This will provide about four times the insulation of standard construction. The house has in-floor hot water heat and has a very efficient ventilation system. Inside the space is roomy with nine foot ceilings through the bulk of the house with much higher vaults through the living.dining room area. The roof sports shakes made from recycled rubber tires and should be good for 75-100 years. The house will be as creative on the inside as it is out with plenty of CNC routed moldings and trim. I am just now turning my attention to the design of those details now. It is fun to build a dream for real!

We've built the house along side a great contractor and his team. They took care of structure while our team did all the fancy work. Most of my crew were university students who only have a couple more weeks of work before they head back to school. Our goal was to finish the outside of the house before that. We should almost make it.

At lunch today Donna asked me..."What's that
Sawatzky guy on your sign site up to these days."...so I told her we hadn't heard from him in a while and probably he was really busy building his fantasy house...and that I was expecting a whole bunch of pics to walk us through the process at any time...so I get up from lunch...turn on the computer...UNBELIEVABLE

I eagerly look forward to Dan's Facebook and blog posts every day. It continues to be an interesting and informative journey. Dan knows how impressed I am with the whole project.
One thing, Dan don't forget to put in an RV plug-in. Laurie and I are shopping for a motor home and we will be visiting. [Rolling On The Floor]

That is spectacular, Dan.......But it almost seems it needs some "gingerbread" somewhere.

I was afraid to say it earlier...but Raymond said it for me...even though this is going to be a really nice house...remember...you can always build what you want later.

The house is a good size - about 2,900 square feet on the main floor. There are two bonus rooms upstairs in the rafters - one for Phoebe as a play room and one as a guest bedroom for when our house overflows with family at Christmas time. the rooms are nice and big with a big kitchen, dining/living room area which will be used when we host our Sign Magic Workshops and other gatherings. Janis finally has a big sewing room as well, needed for her quilting and sewing.

Dale - As far as gingerbread trim ... it is still coming. There is a lot of colorful routed eight inch wide trim to go on the house both vertically and horizontally with heart panels to go at each intersection. There will also be decorative knees on each vertical member which are about 8' apart. [Smile]

Spectacular! But the House is going to need a Name... Like 'Sawatzky's Tree House" or something that merits the workmanship. I enjoyed watching the progression... thanks.
