I am a little embarrassed to ask this, like maybe I should already know this? But anyway, what is the easiest way to get a level line on an oval to letter it?
I think I did one long ago, don't remember how I did it.

I usually just eyeball them by lining up the most extreme points of the oval.

By 'oval' do you mean an ellipse, or a park they play football on? (We call both of them an oval, here...)

Hi Bobbie, I use Bruce's method. (Actually I lay my piece on a large grid board with the most extreme points as level as possible on the grid lines and lay my ruler from the grid line on one side-over top of my piece-to the grid line on the other side... and draw a light straight line on my work.) Would love to see the project when it's done. Take care.

The woman gave me the oval already cut. She ordered a 1/2" thick oval of PVC. I told her I was not sure whether it might warp or not, but she bought it herself, also with a hanger to hang it off her building.
I like Joy's idea best, never thought of that!
Thank you!

Your solution reminds me of the time I sent an employee thirty miles to install a sign and he didn't have a tape measure on the truck to measure and center the sign in the appropriate location. He took an extension cord and stretched it across the width, folded it in half, marked the horizontal center and then did the same for the vertical center. He got the job done and didn't waste my money and production time by driving back here. He also made sure he had a tape measure with him on all installations afterwards.
This was much unlike a previous employee who drove an equal distance all the way back to the shop one time to pick up a Phillips screwdriver he could have gotten for a buck at just about any store near the job site.
Edited to add: When I'm building oval signs, I'll make sure I've included either as part of the design or as a temporary sticker an element to give me something to align a level with for installation.

Does the oval already have the holes to which it will hang on? I would think that the correct level line would be level or square with the holes and the bracket. If after you do the sign and who ever doesn't put it up level with your work, then I'd be off and then it wouldn't be your fault. That would go for who ever hangs the bracket to. Can you imagine if all of your calculations using the most high tech methods available today, were completly ruined by someone else not hanging the sign level.
