OK...it's me again. The guy with a brain freeze when it comes to computers.

For several days I have not received any emails - junk or otherwise. Several have asked why I didn't respond to their messages...it's because I didn't get it.

My question then is: What do I do first? I have Mozilla Firefox.

Dan - yep, lots of folks getting stuff from me that I didn't send. I have Kapersky (just renewed last month), but evidently it didn't do a very good job. I've changed passwords several times and still no luck.

Those fruity computers are looking better all the time.

Any ideas on what to do in the meantime?

Raymond,
Do you have any of the free software installed for viruses? AVG, Spybot? I would give AVG a try and see if you like it. Spybot focuses on ad tracking removal...

Microsoft essentials comes to mind here,..then Kapersky,Avg has had recent issues and is no longer the choice of tech geeks...both have free antivirus programs that are effective when dealing with rogue email client virii,...the problem is probably in outlook or thunderbird or whatever email client you use,...I would suggest using webmail instead to check for incoming mail,...your internet provider more than likely has a site for this and it will stop this problem once and for all!

edited to add check your sent folder if you are using an email client like outlook or thunderbird,...if there are alot of emails there that you didn't send then you have a problem

Curtis where are you? off for the Holidays????

what timmi is saying is........like me here in pcola i have COX CABLE for TV, phone & Internet.
this is the "provider."
in their software is an EMAIL reader. along with it being a "reader" they provide you with anti virus, spam remover & and a way to block any emails you dont want to receive.
i use this almost everyday. i particularly like the SPAM AND EMAIL BLOCK for garbage emails.

from what I've researched you can log onto your sbcglobal.net email account from yahoo mail,(yahoo.com then click the sign in icon)....just use your whole email address as your user name and the enter your email account password(your internet service provider can give you this if you have lost it with an unusually long call to support,at the very least they can walk you thru the process of resetting it) that should take you to a yahoo version of webmail,...that sort of email will not get hacked and send out the rogue emails your friends are telling you that they are receiving. I have used yahoo for the past ten years or so and have all my mail organized in folders there and have never lost any of it due to a computer crashing or my machine malfunctioning,...and yahoo has kept me from infecting my machine all that period of time with infected email,...this way i can go back and search my correspondence over a ten year span without it taking up space or endangering my machine

edited to add,...you can access your email this way from any computer, anywhere there is an internet connection in your travels,...

fruity computers matters not. everyone wants to run to a damn apple when their PC keeps getting infected. Kaspersky sucks, plain and simple, it is about as dependable as Norton is.

Turn off all updates on your computer, turn off the firewall, do not allow windows to do anything but pull up your programs. Download Avast, CCleaner, Malewarebytes.

NO spybot, no norton, no AVG, avg is useless. I dont know why people keep suggesting this. There is a reason you keep getting infected you are going somewhere on the web or doing something that you may not be aware of

Yeah, it kinda does matter. I've been using Macs since 2000, and have NEVER had a virus, and have NEVER needed anti virus software. And, I surf the web anywhere I want with no problems.

Avast for my PC. Updates at least once a day. Never had a virus, worm, malware, key logger, or Nigerian come through Avast's shields.

Same results with my Mac with no protection.

On the other hand, I just lost almost 4,000 3D models due to a lightning strike, at least that's what I think happened. How else could all those files disappear from a folder without a trace. The computer was on during a storm and the ground fault button was tripped on the computer circuit. I've searched the entire hard drive and showed hidden files and they are all gone.

Here is a note from Comcast: I have comcast email: "Computers infected with a particular malware called “Alureon” or “DNS Changer” will not be able to use the internet beginning this Monday, July 9th.>>>>>> customers, it will appear as if their XFINITY Internet service is down and they will call customer support for help. "

Si, I don't know if this relates to your problems, and I don't have any virus, but have updated to Norton as I never thought I would go back to them, and it has protected my computer along with the Constant Guard.

Norton is no better than a virus. Add it to your system and wait for the trouble to begin. No joke.

Russ is correct thats why I said Norton sucks! It will suck the life out of your machine like AVG will. AVG used to rock but as everything is they got loaded down and greedy and started slowing machines down

Dave: yep I had that thunderstorm thingy take out a hard drive one time and I learned, when its bad weather coming OR Im going out of town for a few days the computer gets unplugged. No APC is going to protect you I dont care what they say

may 12th, here in pensacola, we had massive lightning damage for miles.
i was taking a nap, heard the hit, by then it was to late.
took out the motherboard on my desktop computer(less then 2 yrs old)and hit the sorta motherboard on our furnace/ac unit. i have both of these direct grounded on separate ground wires direct to the earth. the computer was on a UPC unit.
the part for the furnace/ac was $500.

The lightning strike also took out OP's Caps Lock and parenthesis keys...

Edited to add:
It also fixed his spell checker!
