his is only about sign-making as far as clear cold water Florida springs inspire me. They are formed here more than any place on the planet. Our terrain is called Karst. It describes a limestone shelf which is formed from sediments like sea shells and coral. It is very soft and apt to erosion. Underneath it lies the great aquifer, some places like our area from around Pensacola to Orlando roughly the limestone is thin and the aquifer has busted through in places. These sink holes and springs are a thing of rare beauty. They inspire me not only because of there natural beauty but they are also a reminder of of some spiritual concepts. Clear pure revitalizing water flowing forth from a rock, since all eternity is a very real allegory of eternal provision to us from the other side. The iridescent blues and emerald colors are so rare in their natural woods setting they remind me of precious jewels, to me the sights of these springs should be treated as treasure on many levels. The water temperature is a constant 70 degrees year round. making it quite refreshing to swim in, very invigorating. You see it and through it, our world is reflected on it.
This place is deep in the piney forest and must be walked to, in the middle of no where, It is called RiverSink. The water bursts through one hole about 40 ft down, then flows for a short run then back into the limestone disappearing for a few miles.
I thought I would share something important to me. OK, I'll call it Art.

Nice Bob. OP, there is a fossilized skeleton of a full grown mastodon, taken from one of those springs, housed in a Museum about a stone's throw from Bob's shop. I think it was found in Wakulla Springs.

It was indeed Wayne. I have been told by some of the park staff that another full mastodon skeleton has been found just beyond the swimming platform at Wakulla Springs State Park.
Wayne several years ago I was a volunteer diver at Wakulla. One of the chores I performed was taking a scotchbrite pad and a scrub brush to remove algee from some of those bones mastodon bones that the tourist may view from above in the glass-bottom boat rides.

Beautiful Bob...Reminds me of the fresh water cenotes on the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. Crystal clear fresh water sink holes in the limestone base, surrounded by the salt wares of the Gulf of Mexico.

Bob, your words are both poetic and heartfelt. We experienced the beauty of Florida's springs on the Econfina, a small river in the panhandle. Paddling into a cove with crystal clear water bubbling from a white sandy bottom and a canopy of palms, magnolias, and mossy oaks filtering the sunlight into radiant darts was as mystical as it was spectacular. Art, by God......
