todd is changing his name, and $120 million nephew art bring me round to this latest BOONDOGGLE. pensaclola chamber of commerce decided to change their name. "The Greater Pensacola Chamber of Commerce agreed Monday to opt out of its contract with the Sanibel multimedia company NOISE for the remaining work on its rebranding campaign.
The chamber's board of directors unanimously agreed to sign an $11,500 contract with Pensacola-based Clever Ogre to overhaul the group's website. The chamber originally contracted the web work to NOISE, which unveiled the chamber's new name and brand image at a ceremony last week.
Chamber CEO Jim Hizer said he is highly satisfied with the work NOISE did on the branding campaign but Clever Ogre is better positioned to finish the website redesign in a faster timeline.
The chamber's contract with NOISE had an opt-out clause for the website. Jim Donatelli, the Chamber's vice chairman of marketing and communications, said the chamber still expects to finish its brand overhaul at or below the $100,000 budget." heres the company they used: http://www.noisemultimedia.com/ then a local company to work the web page. 1ST OFF........THE GO TO SOME DESIGN FIRM NOT IN PENSACOLA. 2NDly...its $100,000.00 budget!!! and then this is what they got for a logo))))) http://visitpensacola.blogspot.com/2012/04/chamber-gets-new-name.html

OP...in the "Visit Pensacola" logo it looks like the giant sun monster is eating the western end of the Florida panhandle in Pacman fashion...however I actually like it...layout is nice...reads easy...is colorful and playful...but the other logo below I found to be pathetically bland and discombobulated...(just wanted to use that word)...I guess that is the one they paid the big bucks on...I lived in Pensacola for a couple of years and I understand the effort to make a connection between a marine theme and the military but I don't like the colors...the spacing...the composition...I like nothing about it...and when you going to invite me over for some of that zucchini goulash.

Back when I was doing logos on Wall St I knocked out much better stuff than that in a day or so.

yep agreed! They should have started local! At least we got hired to produce there exterior and interior lettering of there new "brand". Open file, cut, paint, install and collect check. I thought Chambers of Commerce were about bringing business to your local market? Kinda sets a bad example when you contract out of your local market??

After seeing this pic I'll amend my previous criticism of the logo...running the elements out horizontally instead of stacking them on top of each other makes all the difference in the world.

Hey that's my friend Aaron!!!! Great job Buddy.
Rusty, I disagreed with your accessment of the logo the other day but kept my opinion to myself. I thought what it lacked in punch was well made up for in cleverness, if that is a word.
After all of these years of trying to dazzle with special effects I am beginning to look at what I can eliminate. Designs are getting easier and dare I say better.

Bob...we all have our personal preferences...this logo was one I just didn't care for...but to review what I found problematic in the original logo was that it lacked a dominate focal point...I was confused with which element had dominance...the word "Pensacola" or the geometric symbols above it...they competed for dominance thus making it a more complicated and scattered composition than it need be...Aaron's pic above demonstrates how downplaying one of those 2 competing elements has made a hugh difference..."Pensacola" now has dominance and there is no longer competition for where my eye goes first in the composition...the large field of geometric shapes in the original...has now been reduced down to read as a single design element rather than 4 separate elements...it is now simplified and reads easier...this horizontal layout works well for me...I like it.

I cannot argue with any of your observations, Rusty. After all I do trust your "eye". You have given me sound advice and critique which I do value. The use in the horizontal format is a vast improvement.

Bob...Be careful who you trust...I've been wrong way too many times in life for anyone to accept my opinion as absolute...but the compliment is appreciated...reminds me of one time a lady told me I had a god given talent...I hesitated for a minute and replied..."In comparison to the exceptionally talented people I have seen...the level of talent I possess must have come from one of the lesser Greek gods"...I suspect maybe Pan...he had something to do with goats and was always chasing the nymphs.
