On Friday, I was at this new place. I was doing their trucks and trailers. I saw some plastic letters, about 15 inches tall, being mounted on the side of the stucco building about 30 foot high.. It was being installed by the general contractor's guys. Well along with drilling the holes like gurillas, they just started drilling the holes without first making sure the pattern, letters were all going to fit. Well, about 15 feet down the line they realized they needed about 12 inches more of wall. I'm watching from a distance. They started taking off the letters they had glued on and called their boss. I really wanted to help them, but who am I? Just some old granny putting "Stickers' on trucks. They should have watched my video.

They may have been ordered from an architect.

The preceding statement was not meant to disparage all architects.
Just some of the ones who've sent me specs.

I had this Chevy store to paint GRAND OPENING SALE on their winders back in the early 90s. 16 windows...16 letters. Each pane was about five foot wide, so the letters were huge. Figured I would switch the colors on the words to separate them a bit...At about the "a" in SALE, I realized I had an extra winder. Hmm. Maybe add a slammer at the end? Yeah, that's the ticket...add the old exclamation mark.... I musta miscounted the winders and there is an extry one? Then the old guy who owned the store wheeled up on his golf cart and in his most graveled voice announces, ..."Hey buddy. OPENING has a 'G' at the end of it!" Hmmm...GRAND OPENIN SALE...kinda sounds OK? Naw. Come to think of it, just looks real stupid.

When working in big letters, always make sure you have the right room for the letters! Seven years of college and I still can't spell.

Oh they looked so cute up there. Two guys wearing their neon safty vest and little construction helmets, up in the rented man-lift. You should have seen the size of the holes they had drilled. They musta been using a 3/4 " drill bit.

Our church had a new Family Life Center built last year. I just figured I'd get a little work out of it...but NO. The contractor had some of his "Melvin's" do it, and we wound up with 12" brushed aluminum letters (stud mounted) spelling out the church and center names, with 3 of the letters upside down.

I reamed out the building and grounds chairman for not getting "someone" who knew what the hell they were doing to do the job. They called the contractor (lots of problems with his choices of subs), and they were told the letters were put up with epoxy, and could not be changed.

So I took care of it myself. Luckily, with the texture of the stone, I was able to use a bare hacksaw blade, and cut the studs. Then, we remounted them, as they should have been...and I sent the contractor a picture of the job, properly done. I really dislike "halfass".

Pardon my Miss'sippian.
