It sort of feels like 2012 will be the year of lots of new experiences. Two just fell in my lap with more cooking up. Scary new stuff, but at some point, I guess you just need to jump in with both feet.
I did up a junk themed set for a Vancouver Film student for her music video. The set was also pro photographed which makes for a really cool portfolio piece as well. She liked my style and being that the song was about a relationship breakup, the junk in the field idea just fit.
I"ve never really worked in front of others, but this style was really loose and fell into place instantly. What amazed me was how everyone stood back and kept saying, "How do you know where to put it?!" Something I don't think about so it was a boost to hear it from elsewhere.
The photographer wants me to style her wedding she loved it so much. Cool. She wants to shoot my home as well so we can both make it in more upscale publications. Oh my... I have some work to do!
And there's nothing like a deadline. I'll be hosting my first local workshop on building something really simple out of reclaimed lumber before the end of April. (frame? toolbox?) Thinking of this one board toolbox I invented awhile back complete with funky handle of choice.
When these very new opportunities presented themselves, my first reaction was, "No! Not yet! I have to delay this and think!" But then I slapped my own hand and replied "YES. Why the heck not?!"
We can be our own worst enemies at times, can't we? It's pretty simple really... just say YES then RUN. I'm learning...

Surprise me. I think there is little you can't do - if anything. GO GIRL!
You do pretty good for someone that is half a century old.

Very nice. There's the product line, and...the BOOK. Something as big as "Mastering Layout", but different. Maybe not, might be hard to put into words, looks instinctive, intuitive, very visceral; something you've got that few others do. Way to go.

I guess my next post ought to be HOW to choose the right opportunities... I'll let you know as soon as I figure that one out! I have a ways to go.. that inbox can be one scary place!
I can hardly wait to see photo's of what you come up with for her wedding.
Steve said the same thing you did, it was always a real boost to the ego when someone watched him hand letter and they would be in awe of how he did it.
Donna I know one of these days we'll be watching you do a TV show on the decorateing.
Barry were did you find the photo of the mason jar lights? They're really cool.
