Must all the hand lettering I do is w/acrylic latex waterbased paints.

Looking for ideas of what to put in the heal of the brush so paint won't dry & harden in heal of brush,Before putting paint in new brush or after cleaning w/ watwer & putting brush away til next use.

I have been soaking brushes in dish soap after cleaning w/water..seams to make the brush hair a little limp.

Thanks for any helpfull ideas.

You can clean any paint remnants away with isopropal alcohol. And it's spelled HEEL.

Why are you soaking them in dish soap?

When I am done using hem, they go into a bucket with just plain water. At the end of the day they get swished around to get rid of mast of the paint and then into a sink. There they are "worked" under running water until all traces of paint are gone. I then run water from the heel to the tip to straighten out the hairs then pull them between my fingers squeezing out the water ... making sure to reshape them, then laid flat to dry.

Next day, they are ready to go again ... just like new again.

Werks fer me!

Rapid Prep.
I don't soak them in it but either it or an acrylic brush cleaner from an art store will do the trick. I rinse them out with water afterwards, shape & dry.
I never stick a dry brush into paint .... I always wet the brush & then pat it dry & use it right away. That seems to keep the heel free from most buildup.

Mack Brush recommends storing in glycerin........available in drug stores.

I've used it for many years and it works good.

for sure, wet well with water when starting out.I do the same w/ thinners for oil brushes(if brand new)oil comes after cleaning & use.
w/ water-based brushes, after good rinse w/ water, i pallet on a bar of soap, you can see trace bits of colour coming out, then water rinse.

recently got an ultra-sonic unit, only used it w/ oil brushes so far.it's a GemOro 1.2 qt. model. still haven't gotten away from oiling brushes, even after sonic cleaning..
