Today was a frog choker - raining hard and cool. It was the kind of day I would rather have stayed in the shop. But it was the day we had arranged to install the Lark Rise sign. My client phoned to let us know the hole was dug and ready. We grabbed four bags of instant concrete to anchor the sign and set off for the task.

The hole was the perfect depth and nice and neat. The sign installed in seconds with a little help from the gardener. Hailey mixed the concrete while I dropped in large rocks and leveled the sign. In less than twenty minutes we were done. We arranged a few rocks around the base for photos. Our client will do a proper job using larger rocks and proper landscape supplies with better weather.

This was the first customer project done on our new four axis router and we were pretty pleased with the result. Thankfully our customer agrees!

The sign looks like it grew in place, perfectly suited to it's permanent home.

Somehow it seems like 'horse rise' might be a more apt name, Dan- but I'm very impressed with the subtlety in at all now-II'll admit that I wasn't so sure earlier on though!

Not trying to be critical, but are you not worried that moisture/water will invade the "false crack" in the winter and freeze causing the crack to become worse/real? I imagine that crack is not too deep though. Looks real good though!

No point in commenting . . . You know it's a great piece . . . even for a first-time effort, Danny.

You push and you push and you push that 'envelope' . . . Feels good, doesn't it? I bet (like me) you grin like a fool even when things don't go as planned. No fear . . .

"Grinnin' Dan". Sounds right to me. Congratulations on another fine job, Mr. Sawatzky. You achieved a look that conveys a long history, but done with modern equipment and substrates.

Another feather to the master.

Thanks for the kind comments.

The faux wood grain and cracks are a bit oversized, but in context they work well. The sign is on a busy road and will seldom be looked at on foot.

Since I used 30 lb Precision Board I'm not worried about weather breaking down the sign. The deep cracks (about 1") are vertical and are done in a manner that will allow them to drain freely so ice buildup on the rare occasion it freezes in these parts will not be a problem.

Very nice Dan. Can't really see any "Squiggly Lines" but I imagine they are in there somewhere!

I've never seen a tree grow a horse head but I'll take your word for it.

Nice job though. It should serve them for a very long time.

Now that Precision Board is available in 60#, when are you going to make the switch? [Rolling On The Floor]

Precision Board is actually available up to 90 lb density. 30lb is adequate for most projects. We will be using some higher densities for doors and such on the new house.

I knew that, but 90# would be overkill, and would require an I-beam for hanging.
