What computer programs do you use and for what? Just curious. If you have time to share.

We have used Flexi-Sign since 96. Pro 8.1v1 I use that for everything - Design, Vinyl, Paint & Carving Mask & Digital Graphics.

I'm just getting into digital graphics. What do you suggest is the best program? I've heard of a new program called Xara. Sounds interesting.

Just found out I can send my Flexi files to my suppler and he can use them for his Router. Didn't know Scanvec had made Flexi router friendly.

Must read much more!!! [Wink]

All our design work is done using illy and photoshop cs5. We use Flexi 7.6 to rip files to our large format and a version of sign lab to run the cnc.

Most sign designs begin in Gerber Omega 3.3 (I think that's the version).

Then I do other stuff in Corel X3. I also have Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium which include Photoshop, Illustrator, Premium Pro (video), and a bunch of other stuff for video.

The ShopBot is run off Aspire 3.5.

There are some other software programs for converting video and sound.

With all that, I can understand and operate about .002% of it.

GAWD!!!!

Life was so much simpler 10-15 years ago.

A current version of CorelDraw and a Roland cutter was all I needed!!!! [Rolling On The Floor] [Rolling On The Floor]

In our shop I use PhotoShop, Illustrator CS4 and now EnRoute 5 for routing.

I'm playing with Mudbox and will soon jump to a permanent version for generating 3D sculpting files.

Made me wonder, with most on here proficient in four or five major pieces of software, what would we be worth in the real world. Personally I think I'm underpaid in this sign game

We use CorelX5 for pretty much everything from design to plotting vinyl (you can plot out of corel using the "print" command). I use Roland VersaWorks to send things to our printer, but it's a pretty simple program. Sometimes Joe will use a program called Poser to create 3D models for designs.

Hiya Diane,
Before I went out on my own, I mainly used sign industry specific software - Gerber, Signlab, etc. and always used both Corel and Photoshop as backups.
Now that I'm on my own, I am (almost) exclusively Corel. I still keep an old copy of Illustrator and Photoshop as backup though.
When it comes to 3D routing, I send a 2D file to to my supplier and they convert it accordingly.

Havin' fun,

Checkers
