I just bought 2 at Aldi's. 29 cents. Love them! Grapefruit doesn't mix with some blood pressure meds (I'm not on any meds- pretty good for a 60 year old!)

67, old paint? You're still a kid. Wait till you hit 80. How about everything itching half the night? And you cant lie on your left side because of the arthritis in the hip. And you cant lie on your right side because your left nostril closes up because your skin has gotten so loose you look like a bloodhound. And you have to stretch and twist all your muscles and joints in every position known to man before you can relax, and then you've gotten so hot you have to throw off all the covers while your wife beside you is snoozing peacefully under 5 layers of quilts and blankets. I cd continue this list but I'm all tired out and need a nap.

my morning ritual: 6 am, wake up.take a leak, have a cup of coffee, put in my upper and lower teeth, make it to the couch, put in eye drops for sever dry eye so i can see, put in the hearing aids so i can hear, take a handfull of pills so i dont drop dead(so they (doctors)tell me). make it to the table and eat a bowl of cereal because the drugs i take if not with food, make me want to barf. get that down, another cup o coffee, then if my digestive system is workin with the stool softners i take 2 times a day, it off to the throne))))) after that i stay up 3 5 hours, then its back to bed for a couple hour nap, because of the drugs, i sleep a lot. and unlike you IAM COLD, at 70 degrees.since they took the main artery outa my left leg, is like an ice cube and gets sorta purple if i dont sit it in front of a heater or keep it covered. then i got the afternoon, till supper and then another round of drugs, and maybe a nap between 7-10, at midnight i cant stay awake anymore.......hehehehehe the joys of aging. couple good things about it. dont have time for STUPID PEOPLE. just have no tolerance)))))) wish i coulda dun that when i was 20)))))

Joe...I only have 9 months on you...looking at 68 in July.

I start the the day like you, need a leak around 6 am...But then I head back to bed until 8-9.

Have a couple of glasses of tomato juice and then breakfast around 10.

Usually head back to bed around 11 pm.

I also feel cold at 70F, since we haven't seen a snowflake in over 4 years. (a sweater takes care of that though)

I love grapefruit, but had to quit eating it due to interactions with meds.

Still drink and smoke and take too many meds too. But as long as I can boot up the computer and type, I guess I am in good enough shape. I eat whatever appeals at the time, from Ceviche to Filet Mignon to Bran flakes to a simple fruit salad or an occassional Boston Cream donut.

Despite Shirl's desire to return to Canada this summer (still 3 months away), I look forward to getting back to Mexico in the fall.

Have to admit that I am getting lazy lately though...Had to type up a letter to take to Mexican customs today to request an extension on my vehicle validity. Took me almost 2 hours to do it (But it had to be "en Español"!!) [Big Grin]

Ruby Red Grapefruits are the best! We spent 3 weeks every year down in Boynton Beach, would make a trip to the orange groves to bring bunches of them home. I buy them in the store occasionally but they just aren't the same.

I turn 62 on Wednesday. I take some dozen heart pills post congestive heart failure three years ago. Quit drinking entirely, but do smoke tobacco some. Try to eat right and maintain my weight. When I am here all day, at about 2pm that nice warm king size bed starts calling me for an hour nap. If I am out on a job, I never think about a nap. Stay up til midnight as before and wake up after seven. Can't do grapefruit with interference with bp meds.

Other than the occasional back pain for a few days that I have had since I was 30, no other aches or pains. I do use a CPAP machine which I swear by. Knees, hips and ankles are 100% most of the time, but if I spend more than 4 hours on the 8' ladder, an hour drive home in the truck ends with getting out and feeling some major legs pains and makes me take it easy in the evening. Beyond those minor problems, I am feeling just like I felt when I was young. No arthritus (my mother had it severely) and no need for ED meds. I must be getting enough exercise with my work, is the only thing I can figure out that I am doing right.

That's quite a haul.

I've gotten into gardening in the last couple years. I'm planning for some fruit trees. I had a delicious freshly picked salad tonight with the majority of the ingredients grown by me with no pesticides. I love fresh chemical free food.

I'm still learning. I think most sign people would like gardening -Working with your hands, getting dirty, solving problems, making things to make it work better, not supporting Food Incorporated.

I've got lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, onions, garlic, and mint growing at the moment and just started some broccoli, radishes, onions, carrots, romaine lettuce, and collards. I'm planning to start another wave before the end of February.

My friends that got me into it just had their first baby, so I plan on helping them with their garden more this year than last. I know they're short on time, and they love eating from their garden, so I can't let them miss out on it.

We've had a pretty mild winter so far. I'll have to watch it or I'll get Spring fever before Spring's really here.

Just turned 71. Feel like 38 when I am resting. Then I get up and look in the mirror or try to do something strenuous. Have congestive heart failure and work every day. Circulation is always bad and i am cold but sweat at the same time. I eat healthier than anyone I know except for my son. Heredity and the past have caught up with me I guess. I have a friend near Tampa who has a grapefruit tree in the front yard. I always brought back a trunk full but haven't been there in a couple of years. The "golden years". Could be worse. Just wish I could move somewhere warm during the cold months. Have a friend in the Cayman Islands that I will visit the end of the month. Never been anywhere like that before.

My God, you're all aged and out of whack, what the heck have you done in your lives that you hadn't taken care of yourselves?

Growing too much food? Juice it, right before you drink it.

This is for you Joe, FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN
ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.
Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of
fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through
the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from
doing so.

In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid.
The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach
and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil.

So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals!
You have heard people complaining - every time I eat watermelon I
burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I
feel like running to the toilet etc - actually all this will not arise
if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the
putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!

Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the
eyes all these will not happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.

There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are
acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to
Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have
mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of
beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight..

Well, now you tell me, Joey. Most of my hair is gone and the rest is gray. And I just thought it was because I was getting old.

I don't know what a "nervous outburst" is. Maybe I've got it and maybe I don't.

I just eat when I get hungry.

Nice Joe!

2011 was my first real attempt, so I'm I'm still building stuff. I have built one raised bed and have material for a few more. I'm currently perfecting my cold frames so I can grow through the winter(I'm starting seeds under them currently). We have a little more winter here than you do in Florida.

I built a compost tumbler that makes about 3 5 gallon buckets of compost in 2 weeks when it's warmer and the mix of brown/green is just right. I'm also working on a rain catch irrigation system.

It takes alot of time and planning. Add it to my mile-long list and it's sometimes hard to find time and room in the budget for the gardening stuff.

Looks like you've got it down though.

Todd, I'm up and out of bed at 5:30am pee, rekindle the wood stove, take a shower, get dressed, make breakfast for myself and my lady friend and the two doggies. After which I relax for a half hour or so. I'm full of energy and get complaints from others thinking I am too hyper for my age..

Jerry...It is easy....Just do it!

We started coming to Mexico 14 years ago, fell in love with the country and now spend 7 months a year here.

Edited to add...We live in a beautiful 4 bedroom home on the beach, with a pool and Palapa on the deck. Including rent and living expenses (which include food [cooked at home or eating out] and, booze, smokes and gas for our car, we run about $2000/month.

If we stayed back in Canada and lived in the cold it would cost the same. I'll take warm over cold any day!!! [Big Grin]

A person can "wish" for all sorts of things, but, in reality it is easier than most think to just do it.

Sonny,
The advantages of getting older?
One thing is that my clients actually listen to me, now that I an old seasoned pro and as old as most of their parents. Selling is indeed easier.

Another thing is that experience really does accumulate and you just know how to do things better. You remember to put back your tools so you can find them next time. You get more organized and can find the right size screw or nail when you need it. You accumulate more sensible scraps of materials, knowing which ones to keep and which to trash. You know how to take care of many more little niggling problems like which solvent to use or which hammer.

Another is that I found dating after I divorced six years ago alot easier. I knew what I was looking for and found her easier than when I was 30. I also learned to keep my friendship together with my former wife and not burn that bridge.

I also found that remaining as honest as possible in all my dealings with others was a much better way to fly. It is easier remembering the truth. I have less to lose being older, so I may as well just say it like it is.

The one thing that is still hard, no matter what age I reach? Patience. It is indeed a virtue. Patience with others. Patience with planting ideas. Patience with wanting results. Patience with my own failings.

Good luck getting older. It really ain't that bad!

Perks of reaching 50 or being over 60
And heading towards
70 or beyond!

1.
Kidnappers are not very
interested in you.

2.
In a hostage situation,
you are likely to be released first.

3.
No one expects you to run --
anywhere.

4.
People call at 9 PM (or 9 A M) and ask, 'Did I wake you?

5.
People no longer view you as a
hypochondriac.

6.
There is nothing left
to learn the hard way.

7.
Things you buy now
won't wear out.

8.
You can eat
supper at 4 PM.

9...
You can live without sex
but not your glasses.

10.
You get into heated arguments
about pension plans.

11.
You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.

12.
You quit trying to hold
your stomach in no matter who walks into the room.

13.
You sing along
with elevator music.

14.
Your eyes won't get
much worse.

15.
Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.

16.

Young or old, a rule everybody knows (or should know), usually forgets, and can land you in the hospital:
Always keep your feet in sight when walking down stairs. Yesterday, I was carrying some trash down the back porch steps, some idiot had left a cylindrical-shaped thing on a step, I stepped onto it and took a flyer landing flat on my back against the leading edge of the step. I was sure I had broken everything but came out of it with nothing but a very sore back and tail bone. Fortunately the step edge caught the lower ribs and not the kidneys and I didnt break any bones. However, I am the one and only Mr. Lucky, and I dont advise anyone else to try this trick.

Also, dont go anywhere near your grandson's skateboard. Dont step up on it just to see what it's like. I did that a few years ago. It was on level ground but it shot out like a bullet, my feet flew up in the air and I landed on my side with my arm tucked against the ribs. Lucked out again, just super sore for several days.
