Anybody got an opinion on the signs365.com ad on the inside back cover of Signs of the Times, Feb 12 issue?
Good idea or bad idea?
For me it goes beyond political. Using the image of a man who has been the direct cause of so much suffering is irresponsible. At least now I won't forget signs365.com. I'll also remember not to use them.
Not cool. Not funny.
Of course this is just my opinion.
Thoughts?

Signs of the Times isn't what it used to be. The recession seemed to make it thinner and less talent oriented. I miss Justin Green's Sign Game. Why, what's inside the back cover?
ok, now I see it. The headline should've been accompanied by a clever picture. Satisfying "tough customers" should be fun concept to run with.

Bad idea, Very bad! I would think that they have lost any credibility that they had with an ad featuring a tyrannical dictator.

Ironically, the picture is so over the top, one can't help but laugh. Unfortunately, the people who lived under his rule--and now his son--aren't laughing.
SOT's editorial department should have known better than to allow this.
Maybe next month Charles Manson for an ink ad? The emphasis being that stupid swastika on his forehead?
headline to read: Want ink that will last for years?

"We can make them big enough and flawless enough to satisfy the most oppressive, ruthless and vain dictator"? I guess it doesn't get any tougher than that.

Good idea or bad? I haven't yet decided for myself. Most likely they're simultaneously mocking the man. If so, he certainly deserves it. Has anyone watched the film "Kimjongilia"?

These folks have an interesting business plan if you check out their website. They also have a full back page on SignCraft Magazine with a good concept there. What ever they did in SOT it's obviously generating a lot of talk. I hate misleading or offensive themes, but there's no doubt lots of people don't really care. We are over 70% wholesale to the trade now and it is an efficient business model. In turn we sub out digital printing to trade shops. It works really well, with a minimum of staff. It's nice to be everything to everybody, but it's not a good business plan. Back to misleading advertising. It drives me crazy to see signs that say "The best Pizza in town", and on and on and on.
Yes, the man comes across as a joke, someone easily made fun off. But the way he ruined that country is nothing to laugh at.
I think popular culture made him into a joke and somehow less threatening than he really was.
I'll just err on the side of bad taste to be safe.

It's sort of like those screaming JCPenney ads....I will NOT buy from them till that ad is gone! You could e-mail their site (not familiar with them) and tell them that you find this offensive. If you don't speak up, they don't know.

So I guess I sunk to a new low when I made this "mockery" video to promote my buddies parts business and my atc70 decals website, and promote the atc70 gathering to be held this weekend in the desert? But we did it as a joke and are a whole lot smaller operations than 365.com video clip here > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e_plOVTMH8&sns=em But on the bright side all who saw it liked it

It's up to each person who sees the ad to decide if it is right or wrong.
I wouldn't have done it.

Does not see the harm it was a ridiculous sized picture of a dictator on top of a old limo. maybe they really did the print also
poor taste yes tell them so and I bet they will more careful.
people wine to much these days reminds me of the environmentalism people moaning about wind generators that they wanted power companies to switch to... now the same people saying wind generators are killing birds geez and they want to stop them from putting up more.

As Jane said...they may not realize it was offensive. Just let them know, they're both good companies, & many of us have made choices we wish we could have changed.

The ad is not one I would have used for my own but as I said everything is an opinion

I guess what bothers me is that his cartoonish extravagance has turned him into a joke.
What he has done to that country is no joke.
But images like this only enforce the idea that it is all just a joke. If we could ever see what is going on inside that country, no one would be laughing.
Remember the joke about how many Jews you can fit in a volkswagen? Remember how you felt when you realized they meant the ashtray? Suddenly less funny when you recall the pictures from inside a concentration camp.
So yes, all just an opinion, and a sad commentary on how popular culture can turn a brutal dictator into a laughable caricature that makes us forget what he is truly capable of.
I'm not on a highhorse here, I was just wondering what everyone thought. And yes, we've all done some "stinkers," but I can promise you none of mine were to this degree.

See, if they are going to use a person like that, they should add least did something funny with his image, like a funny hat to match his flags,,, Overall, we are talking about the ad and as they say "At least it's got you talking"
