It's going to be 4' x8', with a pocket above and fringe below. Can I paint directly on satin fabric, or do I need a primer? If so, what kind. What would it be lettered with back in the 50s, as it supposed to be from that era. Thanks!

Satin banners were usually screen printed as they were produce in large quantity for car dealers. Some were done by sublimation too.

I would not even try hand lettering on them as the lettering paint would be absorb by the fabric and bleed.

Too bad you live that far, I have 6 4' by 8' screens that are sitting in the back of the shop. Would be simple to hand cut a film and print it!
