"Darn dog tail dun fall off!" For the past week, Mack, my mastiff's tail has had an infection of some sort going on. So I gave him some Advil and sprayed his tail with antiseptics. I just thought it was a hot spot like the one he had last summer. Well tonite "We" hoped into the bathtub. I gave him a bath and when he shook out the water, the last three inches of his tail fell off. And then, my other little dog grabbed the tail because she thought it was a mouse or something. Mack is fine, he's resting in the living room on his sleeping bag. I gave him some Avil.

awwww...
last year I stepped on my cat's tail, then it was swollen but I didn't think of the time I stepped on it and then it lost the fur and finally the last inch fell off...poor thing. He is fine now but I feel so badly, he gets under my feet.

I'm a bad bad owner.

Alicia,
We had to put a dog down because her tail was infected and they couldn't amputate it because it was too close to the spinal column, apparently some of the spinal nerves run into the tail, so if he still has infection you might want to have a vet look at him.

Today Mack visited his vet. Mack has other issues that require long term care. But as far as his tail. Doc said sometimes once a part of the tail falls off, maybe another part may get infected and have to be amputated. But for now Mack's tail is healing.
