Alicia I wouldn't let the fact that a virus has your return address in the email bother me,...thats the first thing a hacker will do is hide the origin of the attack with an innocent bystander's email address,...I would however edit your post if I were you to hide my personal email address ,...there's just too many wierdo's out there and bots that will harvest it for not so good reasons

AhhhhhRRRR! Got lots of people with this one. Some people tried to open up the attachment, but it wouldn't open. One guy opened it up and "Bam" screen turned red, bad things. I don't even want to send any kind of email to anyone now.

First thing you need to do is run a thorough virus scan and eliminate the possibility the virus is originating from your machine,...check your sent folder to see if there are bogus emails there you didn't send,...avast,microsoft security essentials will usually catch a virus if it has infected your email client,....you can always set up a gmail or yahoo account until you are sure your machine is not infected

Don't open anything from the US Postal service either. I sent something out recently via USPS and had to put a return merchandise label on it. The Label had a confusing address so I was a little concerned that it would get there on time.

I week later I got an email from USPS talking about my package (even showed the date I sent it) not getting there because of the label. I clicked on the attachment to see if the address was right and within a few minutes the virus wiped EVERYTHING off my computer. All programs had the .exe file gone, everything in MY DOCS, etc. Fortunately I had just reformated and had everything backed up.

When I told a friend about it she told me that she had gotten that email too and had opened it because she had just sent a package. It wiped everything off her computer too but she didn't have anything backed up. It costed her quite a few $100's of get some of her pictures recovered and other info.

Those viruses don't wipe out your files, they just hide them. This has happened to me. It did look like it wiped out my files but they were still there.

I used a program called "Unhide" to restore the files so I could see them.

Think of this, how long does it take to format a drive? How could a virus do in seconds what would take hours to do normally?

Formatting a drive is usually the action that should not be done.

In most cases a hard drive can be recovered with just a few keystrokes and a few minutes.

I just recovered a laptop using a few old DOS keystrokes to the "set path" to the recovery partition for a system recovery. All of about 4 minutes.

Try SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition and Hitman Pro to help wipe this out. If your system won't start, access "safe mode" by hitting F8 during starup. From there, you can doawnload and scan for threats. After scanning be sure to wipe out the quarentined items.

Hope this helps!
