New Question.

I have an old wooden box that I want to re-finnish and letter. Once I get the box sanded smooth, what is the best thing to seal it up with so I can use one shot to letter it?

Thanks

Monk

It depends on how the box will be used after you letter it,...will it be exposed to the elements and weather in an exterior environment and or kept inside and protected from them?

inside mostly.....I'm mostly worried about interaction between the sealer and the one shot...

are going to paint the box or want it natural wood?
if your gona coat it with paint, KILZ OIL BASE on the raw wood then paint. if you want it ala natural, i would use a polyurethane clear. i have had some good luck with the water based, but it will take multiple coats to get a good finish.

If you want the wood to show through, use shellac. Its by far the best sealer to lay One Shot over (actually working on a sign like this as we speak). Best part, its a natural substance, so you won't have any reaction issues

What Sean said,....x2

edited to say,...the "oil based" kilz was at one time basically shellac with white pigment but from your description you will want a clear shellac
