The other day, one of my chickens, Chiquita", slipped on ice and fell into the chilly waters of my pond. She didn't make it. I gave tried to resucsitate her using a straw and I even zapped her a couple of times with my Electro pounce. But she was gone. Little Chiquita, she's now in that big barn in the sky.

Losing a pet chicken is a sad thing - especially one with a name. But the mental picture of you doing CPR and then zapping it with your electrical pounce did make me smile (uncontrollably). I can just imagine you yelling CLEAR! as you threw the switch...

When I was a child, my Mom took a group of young chicks that had frozen and put them on a towel on the radiator. They thawed and most of them survived. One came around with a permanent crooked neck. Crazy as it sounds, it is true. Bill

Oh-my-gosh Alicia, you made me laugh there - the electropounce for CPR! I too am sorry for your loss of the lovely Chiquita even though I'm laughing as I write this.

I am sorry for your loss. You'll never ever know how hard it is to leave it at that and not let loose with a round of puns that would get me banned.

So we have the tragic loss of life and the desparate attempts of the owner to save her beloved pet and all Raymond can think about is his stomach.

The next morning, about the same time the chicken was found in the pond, I saw a great blue heron perched at the pond. When he saw me he flew off. I wanted to question him. Maybe he pushed the chicken in the pond. Hmmmm?

There was recently an amazing show on PBS titled "My Life As A Turkey". A naturalist raised a flock of wild turkeys, living with them exclusively for a full year, it's a great story and beautiful photography. I highly recommend watching it, it will make you look at poultry differently. One of his favorites was a female called Sweet Pea. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/my-life-as-a-turkey/full-episode/7378/

Well My Sister has a small Parakeet, it fell in the toilet of all things and was for all accounts dead... a neighbor came by and did something to it, and guess what? He came back to life, the Bird is still singing to this day. Actually there's going to be a new show on TV in Canada at least call Pets 911, or something like that, they brought in actors and re-inacted the scene... watch for it next year... Honestly this no joke.
