The Yellow Pages arrived today in San Francisco and they have a new 21st Century image. Shows real creativity, doesnt it? I'm envious. They must have figured "Yellow Pages" didnt really tell their story. yp does.

Maybe they're trying to communicate subliminally with the yuppies.

Maybe not the best logo on the planet but now when someone sees that app icon on their phone, they'll know they have the official yellow pages app and not some lousy knock-off.
I can actually see a value increase in yellow page advertising now thanks to the smartphone. People may not use the printed book much anymore but that's only because they're mobile and not tied to it. Now that they can have the YP in their pocket, people are more prone to use the app at their whim.

I have to agree with Mike, it's not much but it will work.. Look at 3M, I've said it a thousand times before There's a lot of Logos that are just to busy, too many colors and effects, and Yes Guilty as charged. This is what 20 grand can get you...

I have to admit I like the glossy candy look of those reflections that are so trendy right now. Soon they will be the last thing instead of the lastest. They are fun to create in Illy and PSD.

OK, as a teeny icon I guess it makes some sense. It's easy to spot.
As for the phone books, they're talking about eliminating them because fewer people use them, but at the same time they delivered two of them to me -- the big one plus a smaller condensed one with type so small you cant read it, which I at once threw out.

I've been more inclined to throw my cell phone out of the car than the phone book. I've also been inclined to throw it off tall cliffs, far out into lakes, run it through tree shredders, beat it to dust with a sledgehammer, etc. I haven't actually done any of those things yet but have been only one missed electron away a few times!

Got to give them credit for using a custom script instead of a font.
