Glens recent post on hiring new people hit a nerve with me this week. I had a guy leave to take a goverment Job last week, can't really blame him, but I placed an Ad for a new Table person. Had lots of applications, one guy stood out, 7 years experience... so I hired him after the interview, he seemed the right choice. Boy was I wrong, this guy is like an introvert, slow as cold molasses, Mumbles, I can hardly hear him... but he seemed so good in the interview.... MAN! Now I'm about to tell him that it can not work out, it's like he has no experience, I even clled one of his former enployers in Ontario, they gave him a really good name... then today I called a shop where he worked for a year... completely different story.. I hate this, I even told him not to try to fake it, because I will know right away if he's any good... Just venting I suppose..

I pour my heart and soul into all my work, big or small. Turned my resume into the small sign shop im at now, everything looked great, easy to talk to the owner, promises of rewards for outstanding work, easy going relaxed environment, perfect. I just had to struggle with the pay for 3 months.
4 months later, no raise, bipolar owner, never a mention of a bonus, constant scattered mess he makes of the jobs, more stress than ever needed and he took my radio away. Although i hear im doing better than anyone he's ever had, a real asset to the company. I would bitch to HR but its his wife... she's not even a part of the business.
And he wonders why he can't hold onto an employee for more than 3 months.

Neil, at least he's there. Now all ya gotta do it re-train him. Tell him aobut the Neil way of doing things. It is like when a band takes in a new musican. If the new guy can't or won't play the music they way you you want, well then he's gotta go. Dont "Fire" him. Tell him it "Me not you". Tell him he needs to find a place that suits "Him" better. Kinda like this,, "Dude, you are really good at what you do, but this place isn't right for you. I'm gonna do you a favor and let you go. You will be happier. Thank you for your time, Bye!"

I believe that honesty is always the best policy, stated properly without insults or negative attitude usually gets the point across and ends any further communication of issue.
So, politely tell this jerk he dosnt know what day it is and don't let the door hit you on the way out !!
Just kiddin !! Roger

Well it was intense for sure, but if you know me, I'm a straight shooter and I have become a little bit blunt, I don't insult, but I say whats on my mind. I've had employesss for 12 years now, I don't mind training people but they have to be able to communicate...I have another guy coming in the morning for an interview... You know what he said to My wife and I? "I did'nt know you wanted someone High Energy!" Hellloooo! What???? Honest to heavens.. that's what he said.
I was paying him 14 bux an Hour to start as well.... nope.. that's not going to happen.
