We have always rolled MDO and used ronan paints. Just curious how a semigloss latex works sprayed with HVLP.. just would be easier to match colors etc. for customers

Henry, I spray Porter acrylics with an HVLP all the time. They work fine, especially if you add some Floetrol. I've never used semi-gloss though ....... satins or gloss only.

Do you add a drier or hardner.. also do you have any trouble with vinyl adhering to it

Henry, I don't know of any drier available for acrylics, but if you check with your supplier, I'm sure they could tell you for sure.
I don't see why semi-gloss wouldn't work fine, since it's between gloss and satin.
Also, most people here have commented that they let the painted board sit for a few days, to better cure, before applying grafix.
I guess it's pretty good paint, but that, to me, kinda defeats the purpose of latex's early claims that 'you could paint it, and it's be ready for use in a couple hours.' Maybe for a different purpose....

I agree thats why we were interested in latex.. because its easier to just go to local paint store and pick up.. and its claim to be ready to handle in a few hours.

Porter 100% acrylic has been our main paint for a number of years - we use satin, just because I like the finished appearance.
Sherwin-Williams Super Paint is also used if Porter is not available.
Here is Texas drying is not a problem. We have sprayed primer, two coats of finish and applied high performance vinyl - all in the same day.
We use an HVLP gun, roller, or brush, depending on how convenient and the size of the background. For some reason, some colors require that we wipe down the surface with water before applying the vinyl (usually the deeper, darker colors).
No additives are used - just thin with water if spraying and get after it.
We use only 3M High Performance vinyl and have never experienced a problem with it sticking.
