I spent the last ten years writing a novel. It is a mystery, fantasy, romance, action novel all about a character who invents a new thing and makes a trillion bucks off of it. More about what happens to him along the way.
Did the US copyright and have printed out 25 copies that I sent out to various publishers. Talk about tough getting my foot into anyone's door there....Anyway, if you are interested, I will be glad to send any of you here as much of it as you can read for free. No $20 e-version fee. The first chapter is there on my website and if you want more, will be glad to send you the rest. It is 287 pages, I recall. Just emial me from my site and I will send you a few more chapters as needed.

My wife writes Children's literature, and I've been after her to write more types of stuff. She has a book or two in the waiting. I have designed several book covers/marketing material for some books- the ad agency that I was doing the work for, published it themselves, instead of going to a publisher. It costs a little more on the front end, and you have to do more of the leg work to get them in stores, but in the end, you make more profit from the sales.

I have talked to several people who have self-published and it sounds feasable, but my time is best served just working on the rest of my business. I sent many, many feelers out to various editors and publishers and did find one guy who was a complete crook. He wanted to publish it in Russia and wanted me to pay for the translation? His references with other writers was less than what I could bear.
Another woman wnats it for a movie and has offered to explore that twist. She sounds interesting. Fiction is a real long shot for getting someone to buy it. Curious if anyone else here has tried.

i started a book after i died and came back. never been much on spouting GOD stuff, but going where i did, and still being here, to ME, GOD is irrefutable. also as look back over 66 years, GOD has been trying to get my attention for all those years. so the book iam writing is a memoir of my life & GODS constant interventions up to the april 17th, and getting to visit the other side for a couple days. needles to say, i dont pray to god, but listen to him NOW!!! the name of my book will be THE BOOK OF JOE. 1st chapter will be THE BEGINNING, the last chapter will be REVELATIONS!!! here is the PREFACE: THE BOOK OF JOE Preface I, Joseph M. Pribish, being of somewhat sane mind, at age 66 decided to put word on paper to the effect of all my life experiences and to where they have taken me on my journey to find true spiritual meaning of all of it. Its not so much a story of how I came to be who and where I am, but more of god's constant vigilance & guidance over one of his chosen children. I have to begin this with the how I got here, with the family I came from and the way god kept me safe thru all of it.

would love to look at what you've written.
i'm probably no more qualified than the next guy to critique it, but i'd give it a shot and let you know what I think
I will read your first chapter from website and go from there

I only read non fiction...never fiction...so I can not critique literary style...but I found the plot quite intriguing as it developed toward the end of the first chapter...and even before reading your 2nd post...which included the movie reference...I was thinking what an interesting idea for a movie.

It does get better. He finally figures out what is really important in life. There is indeed a woman involved and he challenges the entire system by remaining quite apart from the circus. If you want more, just email me. I would be honored to share the story with anyone here for free.

I've written two books- non-fiction- on the history of Clydesdale horses here-a volume 1 & vol.2.
It is a labour of love, not a moneymaking opportunity, but I'm glad I did it. There's enough info for a vol.3., but it'd take me a few years of spare time to collate it in an interesting and also cohesive way.
It is all too easy with a potentially technical book, to have it suit too narrow an audience, and be too boring or technical, although the affictionados will like it.
I've also done private family tree books, but am yet to be convinced my approach was right. I'm working oin another angle with that, starting the story from the perspective of the great great etc ancestor born in 1804, rather than from the perspective of us looking back.

I have been compiling a Redneck type of family history as well. I think I will have it ready for when my boys need college tuition money!
