I'm looking to upgrade my computer and am wondering if a usb to 25 pin serial printer cable would work to connect my Roland plotter.. Are printer and plotter cables the same?????

they make an inexpensive "add-on" pci card that will give you a an LPT PRINTER PORT. simple install, open computer, find empty PCI slot, insert card, when you start machine it will ask for driver that comes with the card. install it and you now have an LPT-1 port. i run 3 different printer port type machines from 1 computer and 2 LPT ports.

Years ago, my lpt port on the plotter quit, so I had to get a usb to serial.
It has a little light on the serial end showing it's working.
Pretty sure it came from signwarehouse.

It's been a while, but I don't think a regular cable will work.

you will need a usb to 9 pin serial adapter and a null modem cable hooked to the adapter for this setup to work. you will have to check the ports settings inside control panel and then under ports to see which port is assigned by windows to the adapter,...use this comm port number and settings for your cutting program and or plotter driver to make it work and communicate properly with the plotter,.....
