Last week Bill had a gold leaf job to do so he turned it into a lesson and taught the boys how to glass gild. They ALL really enjoyed it. Sometimes you have to take a little extra time & trouble and pass things on. It would have been much faster and easier to "just do it" but when it was all done, everyone felt good about it!

Look at that concentration...I think its as much fun watching people get it as doing it...Thanks to Bill Riedel, who grabbed me by the arm in 1998 and said, here you try it...We have never looked back since and do a lot of guilding here now...So now I feel I need to do as Bill R. did, and pass it on...Great to see... Now they are working in the big league. When you master glass gilding you have arrived. Bill

Ray, Dave Smith is a perfect example of one who has mastered it. Bill

Bill, exactly. Dave is probably the premier gold and glass guy in our world today. There are some others, of course - but they are constantly learning and experimenting, just like Rick Glawson did.

I like it. How great is it to have your dad teaching you? If the old timers did this, Rick Glawson would not have spended much of his time reverse-inventing the techniques. You have the Smith tip, that is good. How are the holidays, clouds and pinholes?

Oh man. I forgot that...they are already gone and out the door. The funny thing about the job was, they were for some rich lady's PANTRY doors. One said "CHINA" and the other said "SILVER" in GOLD leaf! hehehe I also kept picturing walking through the doors and being in China!

That is so great and reminds me of Dad's shop. That is the way he taught, on various jobs for customers. It gives you a real sense of completing a project and pleasing a customer, no matter what skills you are learning. That sets you up for a lifetime of learning and experimenting to always have a fresh approach to satisfying both your customer's needs and your own creativity. I learn something everyday and when that stops, it is time to give it up.

I couldn't do a gold job today if ya paid me. And furthermore I'm glad...There's not too many that want to pay enough right price to even think about offering it. Good to see the teacher and pupils at work.

Jack, that is not the case here. We have a number of good customers who appreciate quality and elegance. I always say that I do not necessarily sell gold leaf signs but quality signs. The fact that I choose gold as an elegant and high quality material is somewhat beside the point.

Does well over in Corvallis but this area is a closed community with simple tastes. Luckily I am doing more Art and also graphic design projects for the Grand Ronde Tribes.
