Did I miss an announcement on this? Please tell me if I did. I feel like I've been snubbed. I live in Illinois, and only about 3 hours away from Danville. Nobody called me and asked for help which I would have gladly made the trip to paint again.
Nice way to make a walldog feel unwanted. Oh and I wouldn't have expected to be paid either like some who have found a way to profit off of many of us who have volunteered for years.
Hopefully their is an explanation for all of this, but if not I guess I will have to be more careful who I consider my friends in the future.
Sign-cerely disappointed, Steve

Let's be careful about casting loose allegations about. Getting paid for a mural should be praised and welcomed by all.
Finding away might have actually meant working with and relocating a business to Danville. Adding two murals would not necessitate an entire full fledged sha-bang.
GO DANVILLE! a town that now understands the value of ART!

This is a project that I set up that isn't any different than Belle Plaine IA. This project was modeled after Nancy Bennett’s event. It is a contracted project! We have two murals and a town willing to give the Walldogs a ton of free press. This free press only helps the Walldogs in the long run. Is it invitation only? Yes. The project leaders were instructed to hire three painters for their project, because this is not a Walldog Meet! I have ask for instruction from Nancy about this project and am happy to say that she will be painting with us in Danville this week. So if anyone feels the need to talk with me about this I would happy to take your call. 217 671 1266

I got a call from Michael Clark today. He explained that the folks in Danville promoted this as a walldog event which in reality is a personal paid job and not really a full blown event. They were still excited from last year's walldog invasion that the hype spilled over into their advertising.
I wasn't aware that Mr. Clark and Mr. Meyer had arranged these new murals for Danville as a paid project and was not needing additional artists.
More power to them if they can land a mural gig. I had a few days I could have spared, but I'll wait until next year. Good luck guys and I hope it works out in this heat.
Sign-cerely, Steve

This kind of thing happens all the time. If a Walldog gets an opportunity to paint a mural for cash, who's the best folks to call for help? OTHER WALLDOGS. It's not a snubbing - you can't put together an open event for a couple of murals, so whoever is in charge invites who they wish. Dave Petri did one recently and the Raaps are wrapping one up now. I think Michael Clark has done a few and so have the Diaz family. I was involved in the Belle Plaine event 2 years ago. So, it's OK - go for it - we're all still friends and family.
And it's always more fun to have a little jingle in your pocket when you finish......

This is a small town who had a meet last year. The meet is over. The town would like more murals. What is wrong with that? It is good that after a meet has already been held in a town, (because a majority of the people on the walls were volunteers,) murals after the fact are being paid for. It is good the town wants more murals. It is good that muralists are being paid. Not every mural requires a walldog meet. Nor is it possible. There are lots of mini meets and micro meets being held all over North America. Just because you do not go to them all does not mean you are not a Walldog or that you are being slighted. Nor is it any comment on your talent or who your friends are. Every time a good mural goes up it advertises what Walldogs do and shows communities how it helps their town. Let it grow. Let them do their stuff.

Once a Walldog, always a Walldog? This means that because you're a Walldog you are not allowed to work for cash in a town that has already had an event???? I think not!
Once a town gets a taste of what the Walldogs can do, it should have the option to expand to the next level to create more "Walldog" type murals if that's what they choose, or any other type of mural/sign.
The whole idea of a Walldog Invasion is to kick-start the town's tourism dollars & give them more creative ideas on how to attract tourists & attention. It also creates an exciting environment for communities to pull together & participate in the arts. New events in new towns make new Walldogs!
These events also generate future work for the artists involved & to continue what the Walldogs started. I think it's called 'networking'. Anyone can take advantage of that but someone, whether it's a Walldog or not, needs to plan & secure funds & materials to make it happen... & THAT's a lot of work. Invite or not, Walldog or not, I would rather hear of successful stories which keep our passion alive & well.
I agree with everyone on this page that a contracted event is work to be had by any reputable artist who can prove they should be hired to do a job. If it happens to be a Walldog, that's great!
Cornbread... be sure to attach some photos of your work in progress, would love to see them! Say hi to Nancy, Michael & Mike, & whoever else you have on the scaffolding ... & stay hydrated my friend!!!
