I designed a sign for a chiropractor and he suggested I work with his interior designer on revisions. Here is her e-mail to me regarding my layout (which included all info the doctor said was necessary):
" It's a bit traditional looking to me. I'm also not sure about the gold. It's also a bit busy. Any way to make it cleaner and more "spa" like as we are trying to do with interior? Just my 2 cents. Deb "
Can anybody clue me in on what spa-like design is? I don't get out much.......

I think she's telling you to go soak your head.
I've had a few of those type things lately: "The design needs to be edgier", "Make it less traditional", "The colors are too colonial", "I want snazzy but not swanky". Although I somehow managed to please all of them, I still need an art-gibberish/English translator.
Maybe if I get a Mac, it will all become clear...

Sonny, you might want to do some google 'spa like' designs. One thing I notice is the 'age level of who wants that special design' there is so much going on out there we have to sometimes do a double check of what's in or what we think. Bottom line what is it they really want? I know you can make it happen...

I was faced with the same thing a couple weeks ago. These Interior designers must all go to the same school with the same teachers. Turned out in this case they were after clean and simple. Another go round, like in fashion. Think lower case lettering and subtle colours. Calming, was what I figured it out to be.
edited to add this particular Spa-like interior designer was actually after just lots of white space, but she didn't know how to say it

I had a client tell me he wanted me to "Poof it up more." Huh? He looked puzzled and I chuckled. Finally, I added some blends and some eyeball kicks. The vocabulary of the average client is a bit lacking at times. It takes ESP....Extra Sign Persistence.

I apologize for the above post. Right after sending it I walked to the door and checked my mail. SignCraft Sign Builder and Canadian Sign Media, all came in together.
I am no longer mad at the world.
I just put the gone to lunch sign on the locked door, took the phone off the hook and poured myself a very tall Coke Classic and about to wade in.

Clean, crisp edges. Soothing colors such as sage green, pale aqua and white. Silver, platinum for metallics, no gold. No bright primary colors. Nothing ornate for the font.
