got up this morning, decided to make a onion, pepper, shroom & cheese omelet. need to back up to when we was buying plants this spring. i picked up a 6 pack of pepper plants and asked the guy there what kinda pepper they was? the little stick in tag was gone, he didnt know and said "take em home" see what they grow!!! we planted em. the got small green and red peppers. i sat in the kitchen the other nite after picking 3-4 of em, and bit the very tip of a green one and a red one. NO HEAT!!! taste like a sweet pepper. back to this morning. i took those 2 peppers, opened em, cleaned out the seed, CUT EM UP,with my bare hands, and put em in the skillet with the onions/shrooms. so while they was cookin i went to the bathroom and put in my teeth. now all of a sudden i get this burning sensation in my mouth. so i didnt pay much attention to it. while in the bathroom, had to go #1, and did that, and after i did, it started burning. still didnt dawn on me till i sat down to eat the omelet. i took a nice big bite with some green and some red peppers in it, about 3 chews and i broke out in a sweat!!!!!! mouth was on fire, lips & taste buds also. MAN!!!!! right now almost 2 hours later, LIPS still letting me know they dont like fire, hands also. washed 3 -4 times, feels much better with cold water!!! i actually ate the whole omelet, cause after that 1st big hot bite, the rest wasnt as bad. i picked out most of the peppers put em on the side of the plate. was sitting on the patio, and the flys WILL NOT EVEN LAND ON THEM PEPPERS!!!!!!!! they are smarter then me)))))) we got 6 jalapeno PLANTS...NOW I KNOW!!!!!!

LOL.... nothing like fresh veggies though. I haven't gotten my garden in yet, we've had soooo much rain. Don't know what I can get started at this point. I'd like to get some green beans in and some zucchini....

I learned mine years ago. Bunch of us were sitting around the shop, one Saturday noontime. We had a few adult beverages and one of the guys suggested we order a couple pizzas. They also ordered a couple of those little containers of jalapenos on the side.
I guess I wound up eating most all of them. Next 2 days, I was in misery. Man,you talk about itch!! I had big red splotches all over me, couldn't sleep...total misery. Went to the doc, and he told me I threw the chemical balance of my body off, just suffer til it's gone.
Learned my lesson! Now, you've learned yours too!!

As we were installing the sign for a Thai restaurant, one of my people queried the owner: "Just how hot is Thai food?" The owner asked him: "You know them jalapeño peppers?" "Yeah." "Well, they ain't hot!"
Edited to add:

Eat something way too hot? Eat a half teaspoon of sugar. Learned this in Texas at my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner. It was all authentic Mexican. They accidentally made my dish hot. Tasted great but not being used to that hot, was difficult to eat. One of my future son-in-laws Aunt's said to eat a teaspoon of sugar. I was shocked when the heat went away completely. I was able to eat all the hot hot stuff, with a little sugar every 5 or 6 bites.

I ate an entire scotch bonnet once, just to prove I could do it... it was not worth it. Did I ever mention I fell on my head a lot when I was a kid?

Rick Glawson grew the hottest peppers I've ever encountered. He'd come to visit with a small bag of them in his pocket and eat them like candy. I fell for that more than once.

My mom used to put sugar in the tomato sauce to cut down on the acidity.
I eat jalepenos in the jar a lot..they are great when they are from there or just put them in rice and they are great for arthritis and fibromyalgia as all of the starts in the stomach with virus I hear...that's why they make my muscles feel good, hmmmm.

Rick, I took Glawson to a Thai restaurant once when he came to Iowa for a workshop. He ordered the hottest thing on the menu and said it would make pretty good ice cream topping, haha. That's when he pulled out his bag of dried habenaros and started chewing on one. Another time I saw him put sugar in salsa... he said it "opened up" the heat.
