As usual I'm here asking for help. I have a job to create a large Chalkboard Menu. I told the customer "no problem." It's just another art material right?. Well guess what, Chalk/pastels are not too easy. As you draw a thin line gets thick pretty fast, they break etc. So I practiced and can do pretty well. The problem comes when the fixative is added to protect certain areas from smudging. The fixative knocks the shade down by about a third and makes the chalkboard show through in an undesireable way. I underpainted with flat acrylic which was then calked over per the "How To" I found here. That worked pretty good but there was still a lot of detail and brightness lost when the fixative was added. A local sign guy suggested Frog Juice which I will try when I get some. Do any of you have any other ideas? Thanks you for any ideas or suggestions you may have.

Wegman's supermarkets have them in their stores. I have been told they do them in house. If you have a Wegman's store nearby, you could study the signs and get some ideas. They are very striking and relay the message well
