Where were you when this song came out...I was attending Memphis State University and majoring in intramural basketball ...our dorm had an absolutely awesome team and I loved playing basketball...consequently I spent way too much time in the gym instead of working on my art assignments which resulted in me soon becoming a commercial art major drop out...hey we were just kids with a war happening in Viet Nam.

It may have been '68, but I thought it was sounding a bit too bubblegummy. I was cruizing along with Zappa, Jimi and the Doors, hard. Took off for art school (University of Kansas) where the sexual revolution was in full swing. Art school was too much fun. I had a dream that I would grow up and become a painter. Amazingly, I did. I wouldn't have done it any other way.

In '68 I was in grade eleven and building my first hot rod. I didn't met Janis (my first date) until a year later.

I was in grade 9. The Beatles were hot stuff then. I think Dan is Mathematically challenged, either that or academically gifted. If he was in grade 11 in 1968, he was 15 years old.

I was 9 Years old then, and this song reminds be of a simpler time, endless summer days, Playing baseball in our field in front of our 100 yr old home at the time.. Playing Spotlight at night, and Listening to the Top Ten at 10 on the transistor radio in the Night time... Wouldn't you like to go back and relive those days again?

In '68 I had just gotten together with my 3rd wife, ran a small commercial art shop out of my loft in SOHO, NYC, catering to Wall St accounts. Lots of logos and brochures for mutual funds mainly. Good money. Listening to the Stones, Beatles, Ray Charles, The Who, Dylan, Mamas and Papas, Beach Boys, and some you never heard of like The Fugs.

Hmmmm, I guess I was attending elementary school, probably grade 2 in Dundas Ontario. Music at that time for me was a lot of Jazz. That's what Dad listened to. Well besides what was on the local yocal radio station. It wasn't until a song came out called American Pie that I started listening to much else. What year would have been?
Edited to add- we did rollerskate to that song in high school quite a bit though.

Like Duncan, I was still in the 9th grade at 15, but like Dan, I was working on my first car, trying to get it running before getting my license.
I remember hearing that song, but not "listening".

"The Letter" was my brother and my all time favorite rock song. It was the Boxtops first release, and if I recall correctly, the #1 song in the world for 1967.

Teaching kids like Duncan in public school in Texas and following my dream of painting signs on the side.
My classroom was a temporary portable building because of the overcrowding at our school. It is still being used as a classroom today. "Temporary" had a different definition then, I suppose.

Just left from engineering dept. to model making at the design shop for RCA Victor, home instruments. That was Indianapolis, home of the NHRA nationals. Building light shows and creating kinetic art from plexiglass. Records were pressed in the lower floor at RCA and all the music I wanted was totally discounted. You name it I had it...

Man I wish I still had my old vinyl. We had 5,000 records in our basement that we had to unload before we moved out west. I've still got a couple of Fats Waller records, haha.
