Once aagin I am thinking about recieving credit card payment. Should I go for VISA or American Express. Don't most people carry VISA anyways?

Amex charges you more to process. Visa and MC are the way to go. Actually, you can hook up with numerous companies that process and can accept them all, but you have to remember to 'batch out' your dough. All in all it costs about 3% to run the money. Today, I rarely work for anyone but new car stores and they simply pay by prompt check, so I eliminated the CC deal.
If you only do the rare CC receivable, you might talk to your bank as they may have a deal for the rare transaction. Call your banker.

I take VM cards. I only get an AE request about once a year.

I take Visa, MC & Discover. Got a "deal" by being a member of USSC. Fees range between 3-4%. I was told Amex would be a higher cost. I do work for a couple of large companies that only pay be Visa. I hate paying the fees but that's the only way I can get their work.

It helps to own the terminal. We use Cynergy and when I didn't want to lease a terminal, and the price of a new one was too much, they sold us a reconditioned one that has been trouble free. Just keep it on a surge protector or you'll be reprogramming it after thunderstorms.

I was told that Amex is not as popular for the masses because one of their requirements is that your balance has to be paid in full each month. I can honestly say that I have never seen anyone pay with an American Express card. I'd definitely go with Visa / MC and if you want to throw in another one add Discover card.
I got a Discover Business card. I only use it when I have to (like amazon.com purchases) as I'm on open account with all my suppliers, but I've built up over $50.00 cash back in just a few years.
